Comments on Programmers?

If the only modification I made on my 02 5.3 Z-71 was a programmer, would it be worth it? I want to change the govenor, tighten the trans.and squeese all the milage and extra power I can get out of it. I get around 15mpg, but I drive 75 on the highway. Thanks, Cliff
