i might be getting a 99' tacoma duel cab, and i was wondering what the stats are for it 0-60, qtr mile, handling, and any suggestions that i should do to it to make it faster, like how much faster will new intake and exuast do for it. thanks

LOL you guys always make me laugh. Is it 2wd or 4wd? is it going to be a daily driver or a dragstrip ride? If it is a daliy dirver which i am sure it will be being a double cab. Who cares what its times are stock. hangling is good you should test drive on and you could answer all your questions. and no a intake and exhuast are not going to make much of a difference if any. YOu can supercharger, headers, underdog fuel kit, exhuast and you would be going more then fast enough. You might need a limited slip with all that power though, you will burn the tires like a mo fo. red

Driving down steep hills really helps. Driving only at sea level also helps in the power department. Avoid climbing hills, especially at high altitudes. Have you considered a 450 hp nitrous system? Or you could try swapping in the V10 out of a Dodge Viper. If this still isn't enough you could always add the nitrous system to the V10.

a 99 duel cab???? if you mean the double cab model they didn't even start making those till '01. If you mean an extended cab, well then let me tell you, it is a truck not a drag racer, and i swear to all that is holy if you ruin it by lowering it then you have some serious problems. the only way that you will get true performance out of this vehicle is to take it to the only place where it can be truly happy... OFF ROAD!!!!! Yes put the lift on it, get some 33's, a set of bilstien 5100's. Then you will see that 0-60 doesn't matter, it is all about the ft-lbs. Because off road you only need to be going like 3mph to have real fun. that is all.

Speed doesn't matter when at the end of the race you can drive over your opponent!!

Don't forget about the horsepower/sticker mod. Isn't it like 5hp/sq ft of sticker coverage? As far as handling is concerned, I have a 2002 tacoma x-tra cab and it successfully turns left and right, and that's good enough handling for me. You could also pull the needle off your speedometer and move it up so it looks like your going faster.

varoom, just kidding man. When you get the tacoma you can drive it however you please. If you want to drop it and supercharge it with a wet injection nitrous system, you go right ahead. You wouldn't be the first. I already have a built up '94 4Runner for rock crawling and bought my '03 DC for a daily driver because it absolutely depreciates less than any new vehicle available today! I routinely hit 85 and 90 mph on the highway and I have to say it handles extremely well. But the only modification I could see making that I would enjoy everyday is a set of 20" wheels and speed rated tires. it sounds silly but the way I use this truck it just makes sense. The only thing I haul is my kids and my dirt bikes. But the grief I would get from people who use their TRD equipped trucks the way they were DESIGNED to be used, would be justified to some degree. Not too many people would stick around long enough to hear my reasons for buying the truck--reliability, holds value well, etc.
But then again, this is America damnit!! or at least it used to be... do whatever you want and people can just deal with it.

It's a truck, don't get your hopes up too high, well at least it's not a mini-van or some chic car (no offense to the ladies). :grinno:

carnut, be careful, there are a lot of ladies out there with Tacoma's.

My wife would probably drive mine all the time, but I bought her a Mercedes ML430, now she leaves my Tacoma alone. I think it was the sitting up high she liked, anyway, Vaaroom, buy and enjoy.

I realize what you're saying. My ex used to like to drive my 73 Blazer more than the regular sedan for that exact reason. The Tacoma is a great little truck. I did a lot of research before I bought the 4 door model last year, but it won't win any speed contests, so why even try to modify it for street use, just take it for what it is, a very good little truck.
