Which is better from the 1994-1995 cobra 5.0 or the 1996+ 4.6? Sorry if this question has been asked before.

It all depends. I would say the Cobra 5.0 would be better if you break the 96+ down to 96-98 4.6L's. But the 99+ 4.6 would be better then the 94/95 Cobra 5.0 motor.

So you can get a 4.6L of the 1999+ faster, than you would with a 1994-1995 cobra?

Basically, which engine is better for modification, can be both powerful and a daily driver, and can modded to a speed demon.

is that dave chappelle in your avatar??
im pretty sure the aftermarket for both of these engines are the same, but from what i understand the 5.0 is a beast, but if you were to get a 4.6 it would have less miles on it so you wouldnt have to worry about that.

It will really come down to personal preference. Stock for stock, I would take the 99+. If I were to have a project to build up, I would take the Cobra with the 302.
Both can be made fast, just depends on what you want to do, and how you want to do it.

Yeah because I want to undergo a project. It would be better to go with the 302, right??
BTW, it is Dave Chappelle.

If you want a project to get your hands dirty with, do the Cobra. You can build a very stout motor very easy!

Either 4.6 DOHC Cobra motors are boost monsters.

I would get a 4.6 just cause the mods are beginning to be awesome for them.......the best so far is the NoS Nozzle system that is direct poported to your injectors and can give you stock motor gains of 120hp. With engine mods you will get 150-200hp with it and with a supercharger..............your looking at 600-1000- hp.
I have a 98 gt that is getting a "new" 4.6 bored alum motor, so I am stickin with the 4.6. But for me, I am not at all stock.
If I got a 5.0, It would be a brand spankin new block with 0 miles so I knew I wasn't getting a shoddy motor and used at that. But thats me.

pssssh, nos?!? What I would realy wana know is which motor, year specific, can be n/a tuned the best, and then you can consider nozzling and supering. IMO, the current generation 4.6 is probably your best choice, although the old school engines are the best but they are hard to find.

I say get the 5.0 My reasoning is this, the aftermarket parts are going to be a lot cheaper for a 5.0 than the 4.6 Plus 5.0 litres are much easier to work on so you'll save a ton of money by doing some of the work yourself.

I think that it is easier to make the 5.0 faster for cheaper than a 4.6. But I like rev's more, and I'm obviously loyal to my own. Boost Rules on DOHC's. :evillol:

The 4.6 is the best due to the fact it has the ohc Which means that with a smaller motor you still get the same horsepower with better economy. I love my 4.6 it is great.

Ok I owned a 95 Cobra up until last week. I enjoyed it, but I drove a 2002 GT my friend had and it was a lot smoother. The aftermarket for the 5.0 is one of the biggest out there. The 4.6 is harder to work on. The 4.6 Cobras have stronger parts in them though. The 4.6 Cobra heads flow enough to never need new heads for performance gains. Porting them would make them flow like crazy. 4.6>5.0 It's a little more money, but worth it. Test drive both you will like the 4.6. The 96-98 Cobras came with 305 hp and later models 320 hp. The 94-95 had 240 hp.

I'm gonna have to go out and test drive this 99 and up 4.6 Because I must have missed something. The last one I drove I think was a 99 but its been a while so Im not real sure it was the newer body style. It was a nice car but it just didnt seem to have a lot of low end grunt like the five litre did.

Feel is a deceptive thing... the 99+ 4.6 stock although faster definetly does not feel to have the grunt the lil 302 does. If your a N/A guy stay away from the 4.6's right now. Still not enough parts and too much money. Still needs more time but it is definetly getting better for the N/A 4.6 guys

The 2v variant of the Mustang won't be getting any real solid support, as far as heads and shit are concerned.
You can get 2v/4v head jobs for 1200+, the best place being Fox Lake. But outside of that, cams, gears, for an all motor setup, don't expect to push anything past 400hp. The 4v would fare better, but the price would be hazardous to your health and marriage.
If you're going an all motor route, you can do a 331 stroker kit making an easy 400. But don't expect your gas mileage to be great.

Give me the 331. I guess I am bias to pushrods. I know they are not as fuel efficient and mod motors. That doesn't bother me, this is not a daily driver.
