me vs s10 xtreme

I was out cruise with some people in my car club. I pulled up to a light and there was this S10 with a red SS on the side of it but I think it was an xtreme. So we both go for it on green it was even until about 55 then I started pulling on him, I shut it down at 70 because there were a ton of cops out that night. If we kept going proably would have had good 3 cars on him.

No, what you raced was an Chevy S-10 SS.

Google is your friend: Chevy S-10 SS History and Specs (http://www.s-series.org/ss/history.html)

They only run low 16s, so if he was asking for it... good job.

ummmmm...... yay?

i don't race trucks... in their element they win; the road isn't their element.

but yeah, s10 extremes are really quite nice :)

The guy revved at me so I had to walk him or else I wouldn't have even raced him and I did check some specs on the truck but I didn't think it was an SS because car-stats.com said that it ran a 15.2 in the 1/4

DeViL
02-23-2004, 01:55 AM
Nah I doubt an S-10 SS is capable of a 15.2. I mean consider this, a stock 2wd S-10 V6 only runs low 16's with 180hp, the S-10 SS only has 10 more horsepower and 10 more ft lbs of torque. They probably barely break out of the 16's.

so ac427cpe u don't race trucks. So u wouldn't race a lightning or a SRT-10

Anyone revving in a S10 must be used to losing a lot of races.

The thing you have to understand about Dan is that he likes to race longer than a quarter-mile at a time, and usually on a track with turns.

Ask him what kind of car pisses everybody off at these particular tracks he races in ;). Well at least that's what he told me...

Same thing I've considered when those people with base model civics and integras try and provoke me. Must be the damn stripes and exhaust....anyways I know better then to rev at anything above those two cars. S-10's can't beat many cars out there, but they do kick the crap out of every other brand name's V6 minitruck.

Kinda off topic but why are trucks so slow? I mean the ones like the S-10 and such that are ment for the road. I know they are heavy but why? You would think they would be lighter because their is less of them then most cars. I would understand a work pick-up like being heavy because they need to have strong frames but way is the S-10 so heavy? Their not that big and its a sports truck so why not cut the fat?

02-24-2004, 08:51 PM
I dunno about the newer s-10's... but I'm pretty sure they're not actually that heavy...

I used to have an 89 s-10 Blazer and it had a 2800lb curb weight.. not exactly a fatty

DeViL

For one thing S-10's aren't sports trucks, only the SS and Xtreme models are what you could consider sports trucks. The rest are working trucks just like the F-150, Silverado, and Ram.
Weight:
Well my Trans Am is 3404 lbs and the S-10 is around 3579 or something.

So why is it heavier? Both have cast iron engines, 5.7 vs 4.3, both have a steel body, both are rwd. Both use some fiberglass (Firebird's spoiler, and standard Trans Am "body kit" vs S-10 Xtreme bodykit). Thats only scratching the surface though.

For one thing there is much more steel being used to construct the body of the S-10 vs the Trans Am, as it is a bigger vehicle. There is much more glass used on the Trans Am than the S-10, which is heavy itself but obviously doesn't make up for the amount of steel used on the body of the truck. I also believe the frame is a little bulkier as well, I mean I look at the differential in the Trans Am versus the S-10, and the truck is definately bigger. Not really sure on this but the S-10 might have a bigger gas tank. I dunno what else to say the whole transmission might be heavier in the S-10.

But see I have a fully loaded S-10 Xtreme Automatic 4.3l V6, besides the 4x4 models it's probably the heaviest S-10. If you bought a 2wd, 2-door, 5-speed, V6 S-10 with no other options but a radio and A/C, it would probably be pretty light. I would guess 3000-3200 lbs max.

check this out www.dragtruk.com, go to 1/4 mile times and see what kind of truck is in the #1 spot.

Better watch out...I just read in one of my mags that the next Nissan Frontier is going to have a 250HP VQ40DE (4.0 liter DOHC, VQ motor).

As low as that HP is compared to the 350Z's VQ35DE (3.5 liter DOHC, VQ motor), that can only mean that it is tuned for Torque, which VQ motors usually have a good portion of.

A couple of other things scary about the upcoming Frontier, is that you have a choice of a six-speed manual, or a five-speed auto. Also, the Titan's VK45DE V8 motor will definitely fit in the engine bay, and might be offered as an option in the future.

Its true. The reason is because of the low gear that pickups use for towing. So naturally they will get a quicker start than what you might expect.

DeViL
02-28-2004, 01:12 AM
Well the 4-cylinder S-10's get 4.10 gears stock.
V6 models have 3.42's auto and 5-speed.
Most bigger trucks use 3.73 gears.
Yeah I'd say they get quick launches.

Off Topic: Is this pic in my sig too big?
