i have a 1999 (130K) dodge caravan with 6 cyl. from time to time i smell gas. there is not evidence of leakage and my gas milage has not changed. i only notice it when idling or stopping the car. the odor is not noticable while driving. the dealer can find nothing wrong. has any one else experienced this problem?

If you have the "3.3 or 3.8" litre engine it "could be" a leaking "O" ring/rings on the fuel rail (under hood on top of engine) you will smell gas fumes in the van and/or under the hood. There is a recall on this and your D/C dealer knows all about it, certain Intrepid, New Yorkers, Lhs, cars had the same problem in the early 90s on different engines. A check by your "VIN" number if your van is used, will tell if this has been done. This recall also goes into some "2000" model year mini-vans with above engines.

2000 G/C Le.

carwash,
There have been several recalls that pertain to the fuel system on your van. The fuel tank filler tube could also be a concern on your van. It was also on a recall notice. When I complained about a gas odor inside the cabin of my 96' with 94k the dealer offered to replace that part even though it had been replaced already under the recall with the previous owner. The odor on my van accures after filling it up with gas. Now I never try to give it any fuel extra after that first time it stops pumping when I am filling it up. Ride On, digimon
