Is a TPS adjustable?

I just changed, my map, tps, and O2 sensors. Now the car will start up fine and idle at about 2grand, then after about a min, it will drop to around a grand, then right back up to 2, then down, then up, and it does this about every second for about 15-20 seconds, then it's fine. Only does it when the motor hasn't been running for a long time. Just one question...WTF? I'm thinkin the new TPS is fucked up...but i donno, I'm ready to just run the damn car off a cliff, with me in it...

No - do NOT fuck with the TPS. Honda sealed it for a reason. If the non-adjustable screws have been messed with then that's your problem. Go to the wreckers and get a non-tampered throttle body.

hey should i get a TB for my adctualy engine (91 ex) or will a newer one work and/or work better? i thjink my tps is bad too but hearing this makes me realize i shouldn't just change the tps

I changed out the TPS on my y8 throttle-body... So, it won't work? The only reason I did that was because I didn't wanna hafta buy a whole new throttle-body.

you didnt adjust the timing screw on your throttle body did you? if so let your car warm up and adjust it back to where it was...your car should idle about 850ish rpm's when warm upped.....

i've actually thought about adjusting the idle, maybe i can lower it and it'd be fine, how do i do that?

You can calibrate the TPS. It should be like .5v close and 4.5v wide open. You will need a multimeter to do that.

then how are you supposed to use a aftermarket TB say like bbk which doesnt come with a TPS......;)

i'll take that as my answer and look for either a TB with TPS or just the TPS, whichever i find a better deal with.

loosen the screws that hold it in and adjust it left to right, just like you adjust timing by loosening and moving your distributor. same concept.

Ok, I just now got back on, the reason I replaced it is 'cause I'm going nuts trying to find out wtf my problem has been, so I've replaced all the main sensors, and now I have more problems. My car Idles really high, like 1200 rpm, always has.

It only does this when it's cold, and for a short period of time...still say it's tps?

BTW Setanta, the damn thing just has 2 screws on it, then it comes right off, how is that any more "sealed" than anything else?

The "screws" are sheared at factory and also sealed. Most drill them or multigrip them out and replace them with standard ones - usually resulting in a stuffed idle (also check the FIV).

As for using multimeters etc - enjoy. You still rarely get it spot on - if ever. You can turn all you want - but when you tighten the screws it can mess the setting.

Apart from the fact that a TB with sealed TPS off an XSi cost me Au$50 (less than that in US currency) and it bolted straight onto my SiR's B16A and immediately fixed 90% of my idle problem (rest was the FIV). That was after cursing the dickhead in Japan that had messed with the TPS.

did you also check ur map sensor and vacuum hoses? it's not always ur tps. It's actually more often the MAP sensor

damn, i didn't want to hear that... bah, next time i'm out there i'm gonna make sure everything is hooked up, but is there a way to check the TPS and MAP? a how to would be great

if you buy the manual for 88-91 civics, they're is a great howto on how to check ur map sensor. it is really easy and only requires a multimeter.

some come with sheared heads some dont I am having the same problem and did everything you did. You have to find a tps with te screws that are a standard and your good to go
