i got a quick question, i got an intercooler off my buddy and the black paint on it is chipping and peeling off, if i spray it with high heat paint will it have any bad effects with cooling?? because my friend told me not to peel the paint off because its supposed to make the intercooler cool better, and if i re-paint it, do i hafta use black again? or can i use aluminium colour?

Strip the whole thing and repaint it. You don't want too many coats of paint though, eventually it will effect its ability to cool.

just remember the more paint the longer it will last but the less efficient it will be so it all depends on what you want function over fashion or vice versa i personally like plain alluminum

If you are going to paint it alum. why not just strip the black off and don't paint it?

You're going to boost your CX?!

well someone told me that the paint on there helps it cool alot better but since it was chipping off already i was gonna re-paint it, i'm definately for function first so what would be the best idea? will it still cool really well if its un-painted??
and SiZ, i doubt i'm gonna boost the CX, i'm buying a ZC this summer probably and my buddys stripping down his supra so i'm gettin all his old shit, i've got some 440 cc injectors comin soon once he gives me a price on em, if the ZC is fully built and ready to go when i got all the turbo stuff, i might just toss a set-up together for the CX for a week or so and have some fun running around 6 - 8 PSI then wait for the motor to go bang! lol

yes it will cool much better with out the paint unless heres the only exception its a special coating there are only a few companies but they sell coatings which make say exhaust side hold heat in better and intake side disperce (SP?) heat better i would ask him cuz if thats the type of coating then leave it chips and all because thats not cheap stuff

oh... crap lol
i started taking the paint off already... :( uh oh
umm, well its off a ford so do u think they would have used a special coating????
and if it doesnt affect the cooling at all then i might as well just polish it

no it's just paint. There is no IC coating the helps cool. Why do you think they all come the way they do. Don't paint it unless you are just dieing to. Bare will be more efficient.
