Help. I just purchased 2 months ago a comp g. I'm looking for some performance tips that can help me have more fun with this car.
The only thing I've done is remove the resonator. Everything else is stock. I ve seen that one can put a smaller pulley (3.5-3.4)? I just don't want problems with computer lighting up (service soon). Has anyone out there done small mods that can also give time slips. I WOULD LOVE FOR THIS CAR TO RUN LOW 14'S. I've never owned a v6 with the SC (always been a V-8 man), however I have to say they are fun as hell to drive. Thanks for any info that you guys or gals can give.

Regards,
Brian

hey brian i am somewhat new to the forum and recently purchased a comp g and having a blast with it. i realize this may be a bit deceiving but a friend of mine and i recently ran his g-tech pro in my car. We computed 4150lbs and the temp was 42f. we ran 3 consecutive [email protected]. 0-60 6.6,6.6,6.4 We made a power run starting in and only using 2nd gear, we ran 15.0@89mph 204hp and 240ft. lbs of torque. i own a 12sec 69 firebird with a bigblock chevy and this car still impresses me. I was told by the owner of www.zzperformance.com that with a cold air induction(wizaired) 250$, 3.4 pulley (69$) 180 thermostat(10$) the comp g should run high mid 13.s easily if you can learn to launch the car. These are also very computer friendly and engine safe mods. Also unless you plan on highly modifying the car save your money on exaust, as the new gtps are fairly unrestrictive and aftermarket catback exuastystems are fairly expensive. Im definately no expert on these cars but have learned a buttload since ive bought this car and if you have any questions or new ideas you have learned please e-mail me@ [email protected]

From what Ive read and actually seen at the track the PCM is your greatest enemy. Torque management really kills the 04's at the track.

I think DHP is releasing the 04 PCM this year. I think that PCM will the the second biggest bang for your buck for 04 owners

The comp G gets factory 3.29 gearing, and 20 extra ponies, but it also gained 150 lbs or so over the 97-03 lot iirc. (As a side note the Gt's got downgraded from factory 3.29 gearing to old gtp 2.93 gearing((sucks to be them)))

The programming is a negative factor for new gtp too. The torque management coupled with the new weight pretty much makes the old ones run even with the new ones stock for stock, or so it seems. Dhp is coming out with 04 obd-III programming shortly that should raise power, shift points, and get rid of that torque management bs.

I hope the 04DHP 1.0 lives up to all the hype.

I WOULD LOVE FOR THIS CAR TO RUN LOW 14'S.

It seems the easiest way to do that would be a 3.4/3.5 and an intake.
You should get an intercooler though. :iceslolan

I'm getting ready to purchase a 2004 Comp-G, I was wondering what the insurance is going to run me? (22/m) I've been looking at the GTP's for about a year now, they seem to be really nice cars; I test drove a 2004 GTP the other day I was in heaven man, Supercharged V6, Leather, Impressive handling, Smooth ride. I must say that I didn't think I'd ever buy an automatic, but with this TAPshift, I may be able to survive.

Speaking of, they didn't have a Comp-G to test drive, how's that TAPshift?

Here's a mind bender for you on the insurance question...I own a 2004 Comp G and a 2004 GT2 that the soon-to-be ex drives. The insurance on the Comp G is actually $10 less per year than the Comp G....same company, same coverage. Go figure. I'm getting it at $850 per year with full coverage and a $500 deductible.

Really? I wonder why that is. I got a quote of about $220 a month from Progrssive last night, not too bad. I was thinking that it would be upwards of $300+ or something crazy like that.

Anyone have the upgraded sound system, is it worth it?

I have the sound system...the head unit is ok, but the speakers needed help. I upgraded the door component speakers, went with a standard pair of 6x9 coaxials in the rear deck, and added a small amp and 10" sub....all MA Audio. Sounds incredible now. And the total for the upgrades with the install was about $500.

The comp g is by far more noticeable ride comfort than the regular gtp. I love the comp g ride, firm, little body roll, and noise doesn't come diving down under hard braking. I got to test drive both cars for about 40 mis each. Big difference with the tap shift, you won't have that 2 second pause before tranny shifts to anothoier gear.

I LOVE MY COMP G..also i think the monsoon is awesome for factory better than a 2002 dts cadilac bose system..i was told by a professional installer that is sponsored by jl audio not to touch it because it already sounds good and messing with it can screw with the keyless entry and the onstar. My wife loves the 6 disc in dash. you should listen to them both and see what you think.
