sorry.. i know there was already a post about this but i can't find it.
uh my guage shows a reading at idle of like "4" just above bottom redline(when warm)... and its a little above "40" when i'm driving... i dunno what it is but its been like that for a long time.

Changed oil lately? What weight are you running?Try a higher weight like 10w 40w with some Lucas oil treatment.

Had the same problem with my used 83 S-10 with 2.8 V6. I solved it by:
1. Cleaning up the PCV system and making it functional again.
2. Previous owner was using Valvoline - I switched her to Castrol GTX - 10W-40 (Winter) and 20W-50(Summer).
3. I replaced the oil pressure sending unit just for good measure.

Now the engine with 136K on it has 20 - 25 psi at idle and 45 - 50 psi at speed when warmed up.

hey thanks.... i'll try that... but that sounds like a weird weight for the oil.

Don't know what year S-10 you have - be sure you check your owner's manual to see how heavy a weight of oil is reccomended for your engine. The two weights of Castrol I use are readiliy available at Advance Auto, Wal-mart, etc.

Like I said - check your owner's manual to see what the heaviest oil is you're allowed to use. Also, if your truck has a temp gauge, make sure its not running a little hot - that'll lower your oil pressure too. My S-10 has a nasty habit of eating themostats - I've had 2 fail in 2 years and boiled her over. I just put a new radiator in mine - that brought the oil pressure up at hot idle about 5psi. Old one was badly plugged up and leaking quite a bit.

Good Luck:
