Lots of people seem to have a problem with the 3000 and don't think they're great sports cars. Don't get me wrong, I love 'em. I was just wondering what you're guys' biggest complaints about them would be?

My biggest complaint is that because everyone thinks they arent that good there isnt as much aftermarket as other cars.

I concur, the biggest problem with the cars is the general misunderstanding by people in general.

:iagree:

one of the biggest misunderstandings is the weight. peiple say "oh big fat pig this and big fat pig that" but when you look at similar class sports cars (supra, 300ZX, cameroSS, skyline, mustang, NSX) they are all very similar in weight. for example i believe many years of supra TT and VR-4 are withen 200 pounds of eachother but no one ever calls the supra a pig. that weight difference could easily be negated by the amount of gas in each car and the driver.

so where does that extra weight come from?
well the AWD is heavy but allows you to spank any 2WD car without slicks and a very good driver on the street.
all the cool gatgets add weight (active aero, active exhaust, all whele stearing, etc. etc.) you can easily take a lot of this stuff out if you do not like it but i like waving good by with the active aero to some guy on the street with a RWD car that he spent twice as much on when i pass him.
also the VR-4 is very luxurious, have you ever been in the driver's seat of one and played with all the little gizmos IN the seat? that stuff is heavy too. you cna cut off about 50 pounds just by switching to lighter seats.

the car is very nice and a lot cheaper than a lot of similar cars (above)

now of course there is a downside. some of the biggest follies are as follows:

weak stock turbos and fuel system. for example to keep up with a BPU supra, a VR-4 would need to upgrade injectors and turbos because the supra came with more upgradeable potential stock. that does not mean that you would spend more money on the VR-4 though because even with those and manyother mods the supra would still probably cost more.

the tranny breaks and when it does, mitsu dealerships do not know where to get the parts to fix it so they will try to stick you with a $5k bill for a new tranny and labor. if you are smart, you can find the parts on the internet and get most of the same problems fixed by a competent tranny shop for $500.

they are NOT prooven drag monsters like many of the other cars. why, well many have more aftermarket support, a longer heritage of building them up, or more people willing to spend more money to get the cars quick to pave the way for others. this is changing though and some big setups should be around in a few years. still, it is easy to whoop a lot of big hp cars especially when you have only a few grand in mods and you can still pull consistant low 12's or high 11's on the street, every day on low octane gas. it is fun.

hope this helps.
