F1 - Jordan 191 - Progress Pics

Howdy everyone,

This is my first post with pics - thought I'd put them up for comment. Plus I'm just damn proud of my efforts!

Now I haven't modelled in about 6 years, and this was the project that I was last working on (and yes, I've got the bug again!). It was only my last 2-3 models that I really got down to business and put everything I had into each one, and this Jordan is definitely the peak of my modelling to date. I'm just so proud of it, it totally blows away anything else I've made!

Now it's only about 80% complete, but the bulk of it goes together nicely, and I've taken a few pics to show you all.

1. Top view - as you can see, mostly complete except for the rear wheels, rear spoiler and a few other small odds and ends.

2. Nice lines and cockpit - now this is an awesome shot! I can't believe I actually made this thing! The dash behind the steering wheel looks so good...!

3. Side view - I didn't use the blue decals supplied, rather mixed up some paint that matched them and airbrushed it on. The masking was a pain but all worth it in the end! All the decals went on nicely, no great dramas thankfully. I even cut the "7UP" decal near perfectly! I had a little trouble getting the back of the cowling to fit onto the chassis properly, as you can see, but I'll get that sorted out in time.

So there it is - my pride and joy!
I've brought it back out and have started work on it again, although I have a small 1:35 artillery piece I'm finishing off first just to get back into the swing of things.

Howdy folks, just thought I'd put up a few more pics for no good reason. Well perhaps there's a reason... I like to see progress pics, so I figure a few others out there do too... anyway, here they are...

1. Stick you mongrel! Been having a REAL hard time getting this sidewall to stick without using a small sea's worth of glue on it, and having it mush out from the bottom. I think I've mostly got away with it this time...

2. My brand new 'piece holder'! Allows me to airbrush both sides of part of the rear spoiler at once. I'm quite proud of my ingenuity with this contraption, or at least I was...

And it you are going to do Schumacher's car remember to smoke the clutch.

Nice build, love the wing holder! I find spraying the wings well on the latest Tamya cars a real task as they come in a one peice molding. It's very clever, but it I can't help thinking it cheating a bit! This is probably the best looking modern F1 car IMHO. I'm about to start the Tameo 1:43 version when my F412T2 is done.

Luckily I've got a second 'parts' Jordan kit in the cupboard. I managed to destroy the body on the first, so bought a second. This is where I'll get another rear wing from to replace the one I broke - rather than bother with fixing it.

You know I didn't even realise this was Schumachers first drive! There isn't an option for his name on the car, only Gachot and D'cesaris.

Will post more pics as the car develops in the final stages - THE EXCITING BIT!!!

You'd need to get some aftermarket decals if you wanted to model Schumacher's car, he only ran one race at Spa. There, after qualifying well he burnt out the clutch off the line and retired, de Cesaris almost won the race.

Here's an S27 set (http://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljpage.cgi?S27DC628C) that allows you to replicate the 191 from any race of the season. I'd get this one if you manage to find a place that still has it.

I noticed there was an S27 decal set available, didn't realise it was for Schumcher though. I think I'll just stick with the Tamiya decals, even if they're lacking in areas. I'm too far into the project to go switching now.

A small diversion from the Jordan subject... here's a Tamiya Ferrari F189 I made many, many years ago. This was my first project I used an airbrush on if I remember correctly. Didn't turn out too bad.

Here's another quick one. The final shock and strut to be put on the Jordan. Notice the yellow masking tape I cut and applied, so I can put a more thorough coating of blue paint onto the (moulded) springs. Hope that makes sense... I saw a tutorial on it here in the forums, but can't find it again to supply a link... yet!

I've got a 1/20 Williams FW13b ready to be built, although the body work looks like a nightmare for masking and painting. I'll probably do a McLaren MP4/? first, and I'm also trying to find a 1/20 Leyton House kit.
Whichever it is, I plan to either get some aftermarket engine kits, or simply scratchbuild a bunch of stuff.

Glad to see others with F1 modelling interests!

P.S. If anyone would like to trade an F1 (or maybe 1/24 Tamiya/Fujimi) kit for my FW13b, I'm open to negotiating.

F189 looks very nice, I used to have one of them too, the high airbox version. Disappeared a few years ago (sob).

Regarding that Leyton House kit, I saw one listed on a mail list, eBay or somewhere the other day. The guy wanted like US$60 for it saying it was discontinued and rare. Don't know if he was genuine or just misguided. I'll keep my eye out for you. If you're really keen you could try calling some of the big hobby shops in Melbourne or Sydney.

Continues to progress nicely. Although I'm a bit worried about how and where the howitzer is going to fit ;)

It’s always a joy to see a new member interested in F1 cars. Welcome. :)
The 191 is coming real nice and the F189 is also fabulous. I’ve build them both, but the F189 in is late version, used in the Portuguese GP.
One advice, go for the Williams FW13B. Believe me it’s not so hard as it looks and it will turn out a beautiful model.

You just have to mask the engine cover to paint it in white and yellow but the transition between the colour is cover with the dark blue decal so there is nothing to worry about. That’s my suggestion. :)

Nearly Finished!

It's been a while, but the rear wing assembly is done, and just needs putting together. There are a couple of decals on the wings shown below that are actually still setting, but I just couldn't wait to take a happy snap.

Anyway, hopefully time will permit and I'll have this F1 finished in a week or two!

I found assembling the rear wing a right pain in the posterior! So I resorted to my trusty "Blutack" yet again. I glued on the first end plate, then the second, and wedged it all between pieces of blue tack as you can see below. It ended up staying together perfectly! Nothing moves while it's drying, and it's totally adjustable. Sometimes a full water bottle was also wedged against end plates for more squeezing force, as the Blutack gives a little under reasonable pressure. All 5 wing sections were glued and set in place this way.

A little off topic, but this Japanesse gentleman (who builds some of the most amazing 1:43 model F1 cars by the way) uses a similar trick to get his stuff all lined up, using brass blocks and a flat plain. Scroll to the bottom and there's a picture.
