tough 92 EX problem

Ok I have a tough question for you guys who really know your stuff.
My 92 EX (which I just bought two weeks ago) is acting strange. It wouldn't start in the cold a couple of times without disconnecting the temp sensor and giving it full throttle. The night before it failed to start there was a shudder that occurred only at idle speed, which dropped to under 500 rpm. I replaced the cap, rotor, plugs, and it has new wires. This didn't do it so I cleaned the throttle body and re-adjusted the base idle with the idle adj. screw on the top of the throttle body. Still no good. Replaced temp sensor and now I don't have to disconnect it to start, but I do have to apply full throttle still. Now I have to apply extra throttle to keep the idle speed high enough to avoid stalling when stopped. Vacuum hose leak not suspected because the problem is intermitted. Fuel pressure checks out good, main relay ok, and timing checked on the cam and with a timing light (right on the money).
So far I've had to cough up 216 bucks without finding or fixing the problem.
What I'm thinking is the IAC valve or TPS. Any ideas greatly appreciated. I could really use some insight here.

when one of my many alternators was going out, I had to give it gas when I would try to start it sometimes. Might be the culprit right there.

Highly unlikely; the battery has been charged very consistently and the spark is quite strong while the starter also has been pulling it's weight so to speak.
Any other ideas?

check to see if u have a leak... seems to me like your losing compression... thats y u have to rev the engine to prevent it from stallin.. happend to a friend who blew his motor... there was a hole somewhere and one of the valves was bent

Tranny solenoids checked out good as well as the ECM.
I re-checked the new spark plugs that were put in and I found something interesting. Only the number three spark plug was fouled - it's porcelain was covered in black. I used carb cleaner on it and re-installed it.
I bet this probably indicates the problem...
Also I should mention that when one of the mechanics tried to start it, it was flooded and he had to put in these new plugs after airing out the engine to get it to start.
