Ok heres my question. I am wanting a HKS S-AFR. I can get one for $200 shipped. Well I am doing a Mini-me setup so I need something that will kick in the vtec. How can I trigger vtec without buying a VAFC?

A vtec ecu, rpm activated switch(really cheap) and a vtec controller

connect it to the dizzy..then to a relay..and then to the vtec solenoid.. obviously, there is a little more to it..but bascially that's it.

the only thing you really have to have to activate it is a 12 volt source... you can hook it up to a switch if you really wanted... but thats not a very good way of doing it...

Thad'd be a bitch. Having to switch it on and off when shifting. F that.

Does vtec use more gas? It so I think I could wire up a rpm activated switch with a power switch so I can cut in on when needed.

the small extension of the powerband on SOHC VTEC engines is just that. small. VTEC on a single cam isnt going to eat your gas up or anything like that. hook up an rpm activated swtich and let it ride. if you dont want to use more gas, then dont rev the car up that high, its as simple as that.

The thing you guys seem to be forgeting is the when vtec kicks in it adds fuel via the fuel map and it also (at least on the z6) advance the snot out of the timing some 30+ deg. when vtec kicks in. You are going to be losing alot of power by not using a ecu that will make all this happen. Yes using the RMP activated switch will work and add some power but really your misssing I would guess about 10hp by not using the correct ecu.

Well if the ECU advances the timing I don't want to do that either. I am going turbo.
