Tahoe transmission problem

Hi all, I've got a bugger of a problem and I could use some help.
I've got a 1998 Tahoe, 107K miles, 4D 4WD. I am the third owner and I’ve put about 50K miles on it. The previous owner had to rebuild the transmission. Since I bought it, aside from blowing a fuel pump and some other minor wear, it has served me well. Now, however, when I punch the accelerator on the highway (or if I’m accelerating through 40mph quickly) to pass or merge the RPM continues to go up but I get no acceleration, as if i were in neutral.
It feels like at higher speeds when I put a demand on for more power that it shifts out of overdrive (or 4th) but doesn't engage the next lower gear. I can still attain highway speeds but I have to accelerate slower and passing is difficult.
Has anyone had a problem like this?

yes this is a common thing with those trans (4L60E)ok this is what is wrong with it i think .the pmw vavle in the vavle body has lots of wear on it witch causes fuild to leak pass the vavle you can replace the valve body but 50,000 mile later you replace it again this is how we fix them remove the vavle body remove the pmw valve and spring replace the pmw spring with a heaver spring this will keep the valve from opening and stop fuild to leak pass the valve this step will not hurt anything it will give it a frimer shift....tommie99

If you feel this is trans related it should be scanned on a trans function scanner for solenoid operation and slippage errors, by a trans tech. In the future start a new thead, this one is way too old.
