Prospective Dragster

Hey guys, I'm trying to find a car that is pretty old such as an 84-90 model car that can be fast. Whatever I get will be strictly a drag car. Motor will be redone and interior removed. All unnecessary parts will be removed. Are there any cars that you guys know of that have the potential to be really fast without spending a lot of money to get the car. I want to use most of my money on mods, not the car. Thanks.

The obvious choice to me from that era is Mustang. Parts are widely available and relatively inexpensive, and there are proven ways to get lots of power out of the 5.0. GM F-body is another similar option.
