here's the whole story.
in november i had a viper auto start/keyless remote installed. in january i would be driving and i would notice my trac off light on but pushing the button wouldn't do anything. i did nothing about this. then my tach would stop working while i was driving. this all seemed to only happen only when i started the car using the remote start.
then last week monday(2/9) the car stalled a couple blocks into driving. after some attempts it started again. a few more blocks and it stalled again. i took it into the pontiac dealer and they said they could find nothing.
on monday(2/16) it died a few blocks into driving again. this time i took it to the auto start place. i mentioned the tach problem and they diconnected the auto start from the tach. i thought everything was fine.
yesterday(wednesday 2/18) it wouldn't start after lunch. i called a tow truck. just before the tow truck scooped me up it did start but died as soon as i touched the gas. the car has a 1/4 tank of gas
took it to the auto start place again. when we took the car off of the tow truck bed the fuel guage read empty. later on when the auto start people we looking at it they found nothing wrong.
a friend of mine said he has heard of issues with a number of gm cars dated '98-'01. the pointiac dealer said he has heard of nothing.
of course the dealer can't duplicate the problem and there are no computer messages to track the problem.
any ideas?
thanks for your help

Did you check the fuel filter? I had the similar problem before because of bad fuel which killed my fuel filter, I had experienced the very same problems like you.

I install remote starts for a profession and I am 95% sure that it shouldn't be the starter but without seeing the install, I can not say. I do know that with that kind of miles, you should have the fuel filter replaced no matter what. I also know there was a recall on the ignition switches for being faulty which would act the way you described. You could also have a faulty fuel pump or pump relay. Make sure you hear the humm noise when you turn the ignition on.
