Bush Fires in Oz

Ok, this thread is for any opinions, comments, views on anything related to the bush fires we are currently experiencing in NSW.

I know at the moment the main areas of concern, are at Sussex Inlet, where about 6 homes were lost today, and also West Pymble, North Turramurra because the fire is spreading to Lane Cove National Park. There is a 60km front from Picton to the Blue Mountains as two of the fires have joined. About 160 homes have been lost already.

By the way, Lane Cove National Park is only about 15km from Sydney CBD.

Do they know what caused these fires?:confused:

At least 20 people have been arrested on arson charges. On top of that, it's been a dry summer (not to mention winter) and anything could set it off. Thank goodness for the cool change and low winds today.

Yep...that's right.....and they caught another 16 yr old girl today apparently.

Even 5 minutes away at the next suburb, somebody must have lit the grass area, on the top of this hill, right near homes. Stupid little idiots the lot of them!

They should be made to pay the cost of the damage, and restore the environment to how it was prior.

I'm glad they finally got that rain last night - and those two new helicopters. Should be a big break through. Glad the smokes finally cleared a bit too. How are all those down south feeling? Q? Stubborn Boi?

Finally all the fires were out because of the rain, but then there were those storms in northern Nsw and QLD which was declared natural disaster.

Geeze...give us a break!

You just can't win. They were discussing the "El Nino" effect on TV tonight saying that there is likely to be more of this. Apparently it snowed somewhere in Vic over the Xmas break - just rumour I think though.

Actually it did snow in VIC, and did you hear in Moscow quite a few people have died, as the temperatures have been like minus 28 degrees over night. :eek:

yeah I heard that. Scarey thought really - then again, so is dying in any way.

I guess we should be thankful for not living in a country that freezes.

lol - the place I stay at in vic is always damp - it might be 40 degrees, but the ground is damp - I hate Vic and I was born there :D

Don't like going to VIC much, as it usually entails visiting my uncle whom I don't like.

I like it here much better

heheh - if they moved WA to Victoria I'd like it. WA is fantastic - just too far away from the rest of the country :)

Haven't been to WA, but I'm sure its nice. Planning a trip to QLD hopefully soon. Need a break, and I haven't been to QLD yet.

I've done the East and West coasts plus SA. NT is next on my list :)

Think of Perth as a City the size of Parramatta but with no polution or smog, awesome beaches and really friendly people. I spent time In Perth, Freemantle (awesome party city and it has the best coffee strip for the next morning), Geraldton (redneck country :D ), Monkey Mia (Dolphins!!!!!!) and the Kairee (sp?) forests in Pemberton (bottom of WA). It was the best holiday I've had :)

I really want to do Kakadu rainforest sometime - I hear it's awesome and the pictures I've seen of it are fantastic.

Yep..its a great country.

I've been to parts of SA, VIC, NSW....but haven't been to the other states.

I'd like to spend more time exploring the other states...but you know...time and money.

Yeah - time and money. I've promised myself to do Aust and NZ before I do any more of the rest of the world. I've only been to Malaysia and Singapore.

Well you've still only been to more places than me!

I've been to New Zealand, although would like to go back, and explore more places I ran out of time to explore. I'd like to go back and do the glacier walk, and visit Milford sound, and also the Bay of Islands, and go to places on the west coast too.

I've always been fascinated with NZ. Then I saw Lord of the Rings and spent my (second) time watching it being amazed by the scenery. It's another on my "must do" list :)

I've done all the east coast. NSW, VIC, QLD. As a sidenote, notice how no one gives a sideways fuck about TAS:silly2: . hehe. I've been all around NZ (if you're there, you've gotta do a glacier tour in a helicopter - AWESOME). I've done West Coast USA (SF, LA, Seattle, etc) and a lot of Western Canada (Calgary, Banff, Vancouver, Vancouver Island, Whistler etc). THat was all 12 months ago and it was around -28 degrees a week before we were there. The low was a balmy -22 when we were there. I'm doing a hard core ski holiday in about another 12 months of either Canada again or Europe. Places I'd like to go are most of Europe and Asia. And East Coast USA. Sorry about length and sp.

Yeah, yeah I know. What that doesn't say very succinctly is that NZ is a foggy 1994 memory and America and Canada are the only other countries I've been to. Oh well. You've got to go to Canada. It's my favourite country after Aus. You will shit yourself at the number of not only Hondas in general but the amount of 1st gen (we didn't get) and 2nd gen CRXs EVERYWHERE. Anywayz, I'll be going there at least 2 more times in the next 2-3 years. Once with Parents (paid for)[AGAIN!] and another time with friends (me pay).

Let me know when you get a car... 'cause I'm getting the vandalisation gear out.

6 people died in NZ today a scenic plane trip in Milford Sound. I think I'll explore it by boat instead.

ETA car 3-4 months. Will be Honda. Don't no more. We went to Franz-Josef glacier by helicopter. Awesome. U gotta go. Oh and Setanta, we wouldn't want that SiR to be parked in the middle of Penno Road after a car wash, now would we? :alien: muhaha. No, that's cool.

Hey Oz, which car wash do you work at, and how much do they usually charge. Maybe I'll take my car there sometime, for a nice clean :D

He's out at the one at Carlingford on Penno Hills Rd. They actually do a good job (although they never quite get my mirrors right :p ) for 30 bucks. There's a nice coffee shop/hot food cafe integrated to the place.

Hmmmm....maybe Oz can give us a group discount :p Why....what do they miss with your mirrors? There's one on the hume at enfield, which looks good too. Carlingford is a bit more in the opposing direction for me though.....but you never know where you may see me.

Heh - it's usually the crack between the mirror itself and the housing - as soon as you take off the water drips onto the duco. Likewise the roof channels and fuel cap. Still, for 30 bucks it's pretty damn good :)

That's annoying. Just like the vtec civic needs windshields, because water drips straight in, when you take a corner, if you have your window slightly down, and your car is a bit wet. Teg is ok.

Teg always drips water from the door handles after you wash it.

heheh - all hondas let the water in like that - the roof guttering on the 1G was a godsend.

BTW - is it a slow night at work or something? You're hammering the forums :D

How did you guess? Plus you know Thursday night shift. Shopping closes after 9 pm. This is usually the dead period until 6.
