Got my new 2000 740IL
There's is a lot to learn about this car.
Once I found the inside trunk release button, it does not work.
Is there a security lockout for the button somewhere. Looked in the book and it does not say anything about locking the switch out. You would think there would be since the valet key will not open the trunk.
Am I overlooking something or does it just not work?

Trunk opens fine using the remote or key

I had the same puzzling thing. Finally figured out that the lock on the trunk has to be turned vertical instead of horizontal (or the other way around). then you can use the release inside the car.
Great car absolutely love it.

I have just picked up my 1998 728i and am having a similar problem... The Internal release doesn't work, and I cannot get the boot ot shut unless the car is locked... Also the boot light has been disconnectecd as it won't go off. Consequently the car thinks the boot is open and I keep getting the warning chime, even though it's not actually open. Any ideas re this? Wonderfull car though....

If the battery has been replaced, there is a reset procedure that needs to be followed. Battery on mine was replaced just before I bought it & they did not follow the proper procedure and the trunk wouldn't open with the remote or the inside release. Had it checked at a dealer where they went through the reset procedure and everything works fine now.

Hi, Thanks for this. As it happens it was serviced by the main dealer last week and returned working fine. I guess they must have reset it? It got a clean bill of health and is in fine order (as I suspected) took it to France last weekend. Still Impressed. So much so in fact, I've presently stopped buying car mags, as I can't think of anything else I'd rather have at the monent.... Regards Allan.

That's it, otherwise the valet would have acess to your trunk.
Enjoy your car.
