cold air vs. short ram

kkamakasi

is there difference between cold air intake and short ram intake?
i dunno what the difference (if any) is...
and the AEM V2 ...what is that? is that the cold air or the short ram?

hey dude,

the AEM V2, well i dont know the specifications, but it is just a more advance cold air system yielding about 1 more horsepower than the original cold air...and yes there is a huge diff. b/w CAI and S/R
CAI: about 21 horses to the wheels/ 5.4 lbs torque
S/R: about 6 horse and 4 lbs torque

so yeah the CAI is a lot better go with that for the extra 50 bucks... but installation is kind of a bitch...but it's worth it

CAI - Sucks air from under the car near the wheels. May suck up water when going through a puddle especially without bypass valve. More hp gain.

S/R - Easier installation. "May" loose hp because may take in hot air from engine bay.

:wtf:

i know k20's respond well to mods...but 20+ horses to the wheels from an intake alone is insane. I mean...its hard enough getting 20 to the wheels from a complete i/h/e setup.

somebody explain :screwy:

I wanted to say the same thing but I wasnt too sure how much hp the I/H/E combo will add to the K20. I was thinking more like 10-15 hp to the wheels with the I/H/E.

there was a magazine review of CAI for the rsx - s and the AEM put out 20.7 to the wheels the best overall!

where do you think i came out with that number... just making up the decimal places??

well take it easy

it was in Import Tuners MAY 2003...they did a test on 10 or so different intake systems and AEM came out on top by about 1 horse on the DC Sports...

ps...how do you guys get your pic of your car on here, and all of your mods and stuff...just to let others know how badass your car is?

thanks,

I got 25(Intake) + 35(Pulley) + 25(Headers) + 25(High Ratio Rockers) + 15(Custom 2.5" Exhaust) + 3(180 Thermostat) + 3(Stiffer Motor Mounts) + 3(Header Wrap) + 3(Spark Plug Boot Protectors) +3(Weight Reduction)

So I should have 400HP!!!

Here is the summation of the dyno information from the article he is talking about:

That is amazing that an NA engine would gain that much from an intake.

He's not bullshitting you. If you were on top of your game like he is u would realize that the RSX loves cold air. In the two cold air intakes they (Honda Tuning magazine and Import Tuner) tested the AEM cold air gained a little over 20 horses TO THE WHEELS!!!! and the other cold air intake, not sure which company, i think K&N, put out 19 HP TO THE WHEELS!
And forget about forced induction.... thats a whole other story. RSX's love to be force fed. check out this company, they got some killer rsx's
www.cybernationmotorsports.com
They got a Type S run n 12 lb's of boost on STOCK internals that does 12.5 on the 1/4 mile with slicks!

Yes that is what the little picture says in the previous post. But has ANYONE dynoed their RSX with just a CAI and gained even close to 20whp? A magazine test is meaningless if nobody has shown it to be accurate.

Was it the S.R. or the CAI? I remember reading the Import Tuner test. They basically said that the huge gains from the CAI's suprised them too. They actually retested them a few times to make sure that their #'s were correct. Whether or not people choose to believe this, it is true.

www.clubrsx.com did a huge dyno test on a totally stock RSX Type S, heres a link to the page, just click on one of the dyno test links there. http://performance.clubrsx.com/
Injen won over the AEM CAI and the AEM V2 as well.

Injen CAI beats all. And check the dyno's on ClubRSX, they're not 20 hp.

SRI VS CAI debate:

CAI Vs. SRI - http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=132254
Hydrolocking in the CAI - http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=131320

Quick summary of CAI Vs. SRI

CAI Pros:
Great Gains
Won't Have Heat Soak Problems
Sounds Great

CAI Cons:
Install is a pain
More expensive
Slight chance of Hydrolock (water getting in the engine because the filter was submerged in water)

SRI Pros:
Cheap
Easy To Install
Sounds Good
Looks good (you can't see the CAI in the engine bay)
No Hydrolock risk

SRI Cons:
Less power gains
Heat soak problems

Most people choose the CAI because of those reasons.

Injen Vs. AEM? (I'm only comparing CAI's here) Well most people choose Injen (see the poll in this forum) and it also comes with the windshield washer fluid relocator bottle. They both give basically the same gains. Another thing with the Injen is that the Special ClubRSX edition Injen CAI is on sale in the ClubRSX Store.

Hydrolocking
Check the link I gave, it can happen, but chances are it isn't. You have to go into deep water for that to happen. It has happened to a few members, however.
