One is vtec, and the other isn't.

What do you want to know, the difference in how the work, look, smell, respond to mods, what?

www.howstuffworks.com type in vtec, if that isn't enough, try www.google.com type in vtec.

Vtec stand for variable valve timing and lift electronic control. What this means is that when your engine (depending on model) reaches a certain rpm a second set of lobes is engaged on your cam shaft(s). When your engine reaches high rpm your valves or opening and closing many times per second. Idealy the intake valve opens at the top of the intake stroke, but vtec allows the vavle to open a split secong before the top of the stroke to ensure that all of the air/fuel mixture enters the cylinder.

Vtec also requires a couple of other things

Oil pressure 40PSI (make sure there is oil in your motor)
Moving forward @ 20mph+ (so no, you can't hit vtec in reverse or sitting at a redlight)
engine temp of 160 degrees
And be at or past whatever predetermined engine speed your ECU is set for.
