Starter, flywheel, or what? need help!

My car will not start. Its a 88 rx7 convertible. When I go to start it, it sounds like the starter sproket is not hit the flywheel, its just wines real loud and the engine doesnt even try to turn over. I got a starter from checker and put that in, but nothing. Im going to test to see if the starter is good today, but what else could it be. I need Help!

Well, have you tried a rolling start? then i guess you could figure out if it's the flywheel or not... of course, it has to be manual. sounds like the starter might just, but then again, i haven't had flywheel problems.

Well if the starter is just freewheeling then its probably the solinoid in the starter.
