Well, on one side anyway! We have to do the other side this weekend or something. We did get the amplifier installed , the right door speakers, and most of the wiring. Just need to get the driver's door done now and make some accoustic and cosmetic adjustments. Should we take bets on how long the factory speakers in the driver's door will last with 80 watts nominal going to them? :D I was surprised they actually sound better with more power. Here are a few pics.

The things I'll do for food and alcohol! :frog:

What components are those Chuck? Size 6.5 or 6.75?

Let me know how they sound. I was sufficiently impressed by just giving the stock speakers proper power through an amp, I'm not sure if I can justify upgrading the speakers yet (although I'm sure with the power I'm giving them, they'll die soon enough). :bloated:

You're right. Although not good by any stretch of the imagination, adding power does increase the sound quality of the factory speakers dramatically. Rick still had one of his in for a few days until we could finish the job and it sure surprised me. It would be interesting to see how long yours last.

Anyway, the speakers we put in Rick's truck are the Diamond HEX S600s seperates. They are 6-1/2" speakers with a 1" silk dome tweeter and beefy crossovers. Retail price is about $550 US, but Rick got his on eBay for much less. Nice stuff! I have the HEX s500s seperates in my truck, which is a 5-1/4" speaker. I had to build new mountings for them. The 6-1/2's almost fit. They were just a tiny bit too small, but we just drilled some new holes and put lots of screws in. I think they will hold fine. We were able to use one of the factory holes, so it should do most of the work.

The Diamond Audio speakers kick ass! If the price doesn't make you run, I highly recommend them. Rick isn't even into car stereo and he was just blown away by the difference between them and the others we listened to which included Boston Acoustics Ralley series, Boston Pro series, Infinity Reference, and Polk Audio. They are very smooth sounding speakers with amazing detail. When I bought mine the only other speakers that even came close were made by A/D/S and they were $1300 US per pair!
