Some of you may have already read this but I still need some help. Of course I'm a newbie as you can see. Alright, I'll explain everything. I put a muffler on my car a couple of weeks ago. A few days later my car started sputtering. Well I changed my spark plugs, yes I gapped them correctly, it stopped sputtering. I put my cold air intake on everything was good. I took it off after a rain one day and put my stock one back on. The pipe had no water in it and everything was good. I put the intake back on. One morning I cranked my car and when I tried to back up it dropped to 200 RPM like it was fighting to stay cranked. It does it almost every morning. Does it have anything to do with it being cold? Well I just changed my oil also but that was the afternoon after. Now it seems like some of the sputtering is back a lil but only in 2nd and 3rd gear between 2000 and 2500 RPM. Can any of you give me any kind of suggestions to stop this? :banghead:

Thank you ~Dave

Does it do it only when your car is cold, or does it do it when it has warmed up too?

Well it was only doing it when it was cold but now its doing it worse when its warmed and everything. Today it backfired three times while it was boggin. I don't know what to do about. Please help.

What is your trim?
Did you check the spark wires, coil?

he said 'cold air' so i'm guessing you got a NT. look around where you have been removing your CAI and look for a vac hose you may have inadvertantly knocked off.

It sound like you might have a back pressure issue with sputter and stalling. I would first put the stock muffle on to see if that helps.

Have you check your fuel for water? you said it rained. if you gave a small amount of water in your tank you can buy water displacer stuff from pep boys.

yes i have a NT. But I checked where i was taking on and off the intake and everything is fine there. THe muffler maybe but im not sure plus I dont have my stock muffler plus there was a hole in it thats why i changed mufflers in the first place. But everything was fine after i got the muffler then it started stuttering then it was perfect again once i changed the spark plugs. I drove it again today it works fine as long as i don't give it a lot of gas but when i try to gun it or go up a hill it acts likeits fighting to make it. I'm going to take the spark plugs out tomorrow and check them and see if theres anything wrong with them. A friend of mine said it could be the fuel filter or the fuel pump. Yes it was raining but I drove it into the garage when I changed the intakes and there was no water in the pipe or in the manifold when i checked so i doubt thats it. Plus I've drove it until empty and refilled a few times. With this small bit of information is there anything else any of you guys can tell me. Its driving me crazy. The friend i just mentioned said if i take it somewhere and get a computer hooked up to it for a disgnostics test that it could easily pinpoint whats just about wrong with it. Anymore advice? And thank you for the replys you all have already wrote for me. THe wires as one of you metioned, could they really be causes it to stutter that bad, and it mean its pretty bad but only when I give it a lot of gas like im gunning it. THank you

You dont have an check engine light do you?

And yes the wires could do that, It has happen to me, I went through a huge muddy puddle(didn't see it) and then it was fine for a while. But then the next morning on the way to school, the car started dying, and bogging like yours, and when i got to school I looked at the wires and they and muddy water in them :banghead:

This was causing a misfire in one of the cylinders. So that was causeing the bogging.

From what you are saying it really sound like spark wires (just because i had the same symptoms, but you should have a engine light then)

What kind of spark plugs did you use, and did you gap them to .05 (just makein sure)

Yes my check engine light came on when the boggin got really bad and it was blinkin. So today when I got home I checked the spark plugs and the wires atfirst everything was ok. But I looked in the wires and in two of them ws this whit lookin gooey chunky stuff inside the wire. I got all of it out and snapped the wires back on. Everything was fine then. What is that gooey stuff, any ideas?? Is there anyway I a prevent it from coming back. Thank you

I dont know what the white stuff is, could it be corrosion, i dont know if you can get corrosion like on batt terminals in your wires. But the engine light is cause a cylinder or cylinders were misfiring.
So everything is fine right now?

well when i drove it everything was fine, maybe thats it but when i drive it ove the next few days all i can do is see if it starts again. I'm gnna reset the computer by disconnecting the battery and see if it comes back on. Thanks for your help

Alright to be honest and blunt my car is really startin to piss me off. It was goin fine but then it started boggin once again. Should I just pay 70 bucks for engine diagnostics or should i try goin and buyin some spark plug wires and seein if that stops it. What do you think ashah? When I'm idlin it sounds like that when i rev it up a bit its fine but when i start goin all heck breaks lose. It takes like 5-10 seconds to get from 3000 RPM to 4000 RPM, in second gear, its ridiculous. Thank you and please help once again.

It is definitely the misfire. Your car is a 95 NT, if so, and you want to make sure you can do the keydance to find out the engine code.

Alright to be honest, I have no idea what you are talking about. Keydance? What would the purpose of this be? LOL I guess I really am totally new. Thanks

O sorry...

You can read your engine codes by cycling the key on-off-on-off-on and then count the flashes.

And then look it up here...
http://www.2gnt.com/nuke/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=8

This only works for 95-97 NT

Well It doesn't really matter now, I just said screw it and went and got some wires, I drove it all day no sputtering at all no boggin, easy crank up. So i think that was it. If it starts again im goin to diagnostics, thanks for all ur help ashah , I appreciate it. THanks
