backfire?

Alrighty. i just finished installing my evo 16g, mods so far, Full 3 " Exhaust, boost guage, boost controller, 190 walbro. so anyway i was going on the onramp to a a highway.. after the break in period.. and i went through 1st fine, 2nd fine, and maybe about 6000 in third, BOOOM. The whole car seemed to light up, in the rear view mirror i saw a huge cloud of smoke and a flash. i think my boost crept up to about 17. whats going on?

nah, i thought i blew my engine.. the backfire shook the car. i almost shit my pants :)

time for bigger injectors and some tuning.

Yea.. did you get bigger injectors for that turbo? if not try buying bigger ones. that might help. Good luck

Is fuel cut really SOOO extreme that you would mistake it with detonation? Just wonderin, sounds more serious to me.

I had a buddy running that similar setup on the dyno,
Evo16G,walbro 190,2.5" turbo back, large greddy,in was a bit cold in the shop too.
his Evo3 use to creep till he get nasty fuel cut at about 18-19psi.
when the ecu cut ignition she shot raw 2 foot flames out the rear.
pretty but messy sight :wink:

ya, fuel cut doesn't cut the fuel, it cuts the spark. and you shold not be boosting that high without more fuel tuning. if it's cold outside and the engine is cold i'll hit it, but i never noticed flames... but i have never been back there either...

no i still have a stock fuel system except for the 190 walbro pump. pocketlogger and afc time? no money for dsmlink

AFC and logger will get the job done. but you still need bigger injectors
turn the boost down till then.
what boost controller u have?how bad is your boost creep?, i'm guessing you didn't get the flapper mod

actually, yes i did get the flapper mod, and i still think it crept, im not really sure though because my mbc has been acting a little weird.. i have my boost all the way down now and in 1st and 2nd i hit 15pst tops, i still have not gone at it in 3rd yet still want to take it a little easy :), stock injectors, 190 fp. also, would you guys suggest getting a logger and afc? or dsmlink.. or even going all out and getting aem engine man, or something like that
