Honda Tuner going towards Mazadas

Okay guys, I just got a '91 Mazada RX-7 convertable w/ complete turbo 2 Motor and tranny swap. The motor has 72K on it, but the car has 230K on it! It has some kind of aftermarket clutch in it, and when I dynoed it at the shop it put down 164.23 hp to the wheels! That's pretty respectable in the honda world, but I wanted to double check w/ other FC owners. What is the stock hp rating on a turbo 2 motor? Ayso, can I put an apex fuel computer in the car because of all my years of tuning hondas, I have yet to smell exaust fumes like that, and it be a good thing. I think remapping the fuel maps might free up to 30hp. Ayso, I have a mandrel pipe bender, and would like to know how effective a downpipe to apex I exaust system would be. The car seems a little on the heavy side when compared to the teggy that i used to drive, so I have just ordered some nitto 555 tires for the car. I just basically want some tips before I tear into my car.

ur actualy getting about the same horsepower that a N/A rotary gets, according to factory stats. i have no idea about the fule computer, but a rotary is nothing like a honda engine. the exhaust you gotta be careful with, it's gotta be able to withstand big time heat, cuz rotaries run real hot. i dunno, tha'ts just real generic stuff, other guys will hopefully help you with details. talk to ur rotary specialists, not to a dealership.

it's to the wheels aruba27 the na dosen't make nearly as much as that to the wheels. The 86-88 turbo engines got 182 hp I think and the 89-91 turbos got 202.

ya, that is to the rear wheels. I got a fuel compute and dyno tuned it. Now I am @ 179.01 peak hp with a little loss of about 2 hp befor 5000 rpms. the dyno charts are not jagged n e more either. I highly recomend this modification. Boost is still stock!

Well, the car has gotten a complete exaust redo from the turbo to the exaust tip with 90mm exaust straight pipe all the way to a Apex I muffler. I ayso performed a complete tune up, and boosted it 5psi over stock. 246.00 whp (horsepower at wheels) and lost like 10 hp below 3000 rpms, around 5 below 4000 and around 1-2 below 5000. everything after 5121 rpms is a gain over stock.

67HP at the wheels from exhaust and boosting it 5psi? sounds a little high to me, I'd expect like 75 tops at the crank, and like 50-55 at the wheels? maybe I'm wrong, who knows

Re-tuned the fuel system after the boost increase and exaust. You can unlock a lot of hp on an RX-7 with basic fuel tuning. (without retuning the fuel system, I had like 236 or so whp

tuning the fuel system could do it I guess

"Racing Beat Turbo Cat Back Exhaust Systems
This system incorporates a 3-inch down pipe from the turbo outlet into a presilencer constructed with stainless steel wool packing. This bolt-on exhaust system increases horsepower approximately 32% - a 59 HP increase on a 1987 Turbo II RX-7! The Turbo II High Performance Exhaust system reduces exhaust gas back pressure significantly, thereby allowing the un-assisted turbo boost pressure to increase to 10 - 11 psi. Each system is supplied with all necessary mounting hardware and gaskets (does not include turbo outlet gasket). We also offer individually the components comprising the Turbo II Complete High Performance Exhaust system for those individuals wishing to build custom exhaust systems for their specialized applications. *Legal in California only for racing vehicles which may never be used upon a highway. "

Racing Beat is pretty experienced in tuning rotaries, you should check there stuff out.

ahhh I hope your not talking to me... I've known about that for some time, anyways yea racing beat is awesome, but 59 hp is the best they got of whatever they tested, it probably had a new, rebuilt or relatively new engine and everything working great, and could have been dynoed in a cold climate or had more air sent to the engine... lots of variables, don't always believe statistics, whether its RB or APC, don't trust any of them, they are trying to make money.
