Ping and Knock

Hey
Can anyone help me get rid of that nasty ping in my 2000 S10 4.3v ?
It gets better when I burn 89 octane but I should'nt have to.

it depends on your elevation, if you live near sea level you do NEED to use 89 octane or better, but its optional if you live in a high elevation

could be a dirty fuel filter, or even a bad o2 sensor improperly adjusting fuel/air mixture. is the mil on?

try a bottle of fuel system cleaner. see what happens with that.
