ok....to all of those who love or hate hyundai....or any other company for that matter.....I don't understand why people complain so much...a car is a car....some are fast...some sound amazing....some look hot...and others get you where you want to go....I have a 99 hyundai accent...the lowest piece of crap model you can think of....no power steering..no a/c...manual....etc...and it's not very fast.....but I will says it's quick...I bought this car because I could afford it...and so far I've been quite happy with it...I've done a few inexpensive modifications to it...nothing to big...nothing to brag about...but what I have found to be very interesting is that many of you make a large effort to make fun of people like me....and others make a large effort to defend themselves by puting down the cars of those attacking them....all I have to say to them is....what the hell are you thinking....if someone wants to hook up their car then they are going to do it regardless of what others say....to you honda folk....I know I only have a 92 hp stock engine and with my intake and exhaust maybe im pushing 102-105....and im aware that yours is much higher...but...my car weighs about 2,000 pounds...and a honda weighs between 2500 and 3000...so at the very least i have 500 less pounds....on top of that I have no power features so I'm not sacrificing any power at all....no I have no idea where i am going with this...it was just a thought....but this is what has gone on with my car.....

I have no official times and nothing has been done to check distance on these races but they are the truth...nothing to be proud of...just something that got my heart racing....

99 Accent L VS 93 Honda Civic LX
I476 55mph zone...
civic was automatic so i figured it rolled on at 55mph in 4th (if this is overdrive)
Accent rolled on in 4th at 55mph
side by side
we started the honda transaxle kicked in and downshifted to a higher rpm and began to pull forward
emulating this transaxle I shifted to 3rd and brought the car to 5000 rpm
the civic and I were side by side
I shifted to 4th and brought the car to about 80mph
i pulled away slowly from the civic who was flooring it
then i shifted to 5th doing 80 I was at about 3900 to 4000 rpm
reaching 105 the civic started to pull forward...
at 108 we were neck and neck.......then....
he got cut off and we slowed down

99 Accent L VS 94 Jetta GL
Germantown pike stop lightthe jetta was stick
he was a bit late off the line
I pulled away and was slightly ahead but
shifting to third I hesitated and let off the clutch to soon
in turn I hit the grind plate
the jetta pulled ahead...

99 Accent L VS 93 Civic LX
Dead stop at a green light 1:30 am
Chemical road
Light to Light
Speed limit was 50
the race was to see who could get to the next light first without going over the speed limit
I won
by second gear I was already at 40 and he was behind me...
(this was the same civic from the first race)

each of these races were with stock cars if not lightly moded 9IE exhaust intake)

but what Im getting at is...if you look at the big picture...It's not the type of car you have its the amount of money you are willing to spend to get there.....If I put 20,000 dollars into my car I could easily mod it with a new engine etc....thus making my car no longer an accent.....some say...why not take the 20 grand and buy a car thats already alot nicer.....well...with the cheaper car I will have the ability to reach the same HP as that nicer car with the addition of a car that looks perfect and handles exactly how I make it....plus id feel really good about moding the car myself....

So I ask for mutual respect from all tuners hyundai and honda alike...if you like it do it...if you don't like it...leave it alone...

BTW!!! I have a question...I saw 3 cars fly by me on the highway...I was doing 110 and they must have had atleast 40 or 50 MPH on me...I caught two of them later one was a Nissan Sentra SE-R and one was a WRX....I asked what the other car was and one of the guys said It was an Accent GT....HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET A 2003/4 ACCENT GT to reach speeds of 150 to 160 MPH....I know an engine swap would help and a tranny swap but what engine and tranny combo allows a car to reach that kind of speed ...thanks and sorry for such a long post but i just went through and read almost every post on the site and something had to be said

it isnt possible to do that. even with a tib engine and tranny, the engine rpms arent able to get high enough.

as far as your post, there will always be haters. you just have to learn to deal with them.

is it possible to reach speeds like that in any way at all...maybe a custom engine...possible a turbo charger... i mean couldin't you change the gear ratios enough ... along with throwing in a 6 speed....to possibly get to that speed....cause I know I was doing 110 and ya know when your doing 60 and someone passes you then you get behind them and find out they were doing 90 or 100...well thats what it was like...only after they passed I floored it....5400 rpms was as high as i was gonna go but I was on a down hill and they were all pulling away at atleast 30 to 40 MPH faster than I was

a turbo will do you nothing but get you to higher rpms faster. there is no 6 speed tranny that bolts up to the alpha, or beta engines(accent and tib engines). unless that guy brought his car to monster garage, that wasnt an accent, or he wasnt going that fast.

I have the same vehicle, 99 accent. I don't care what people think even though they call it a Korean sh*t box. It is fuel efficient, and fast enough for me to drive to work in. Besides, I outgrew the whole driving fast, look at me I'm cool thing a while ago. Remember, it's not how fast you go, it's how well you handle your vehicle. That's the difference between a professional driver and a regular "I drive 150kph on the highway when it's dry, but only 50kph when it's wet because I can't control my vehicle" driver.

i have an Accent too with a few mods, with the tires it can handle 180 km/h (almost in the red line, need new transmission) easily, 170-175 standard (but dangerous on the 175/70R13). As almost everyone here has said... hey! its not a mustang, not a viper or a 3000GT... its a 1500cc SOHC with 92hp.... but with enought punch to kick some tercels, civics, gols & golfs (except for the GTi) or any 1.5 engine... the funny of this engine its that it has 12 valve, more power than the others 8 valve engines... its a torque car, loves to be up the 3000rpm
