Anybody Have A High-res Version?

There's one shot of the McLaren's that I really like, it's that one where they have about five or six in one photo (GTR, the GT Prototype, the LM, etc.) I was wondering if anybody has a high-res version of that, or one without the "Best Cars Web Site" label at the bottom. I understand mini magic has that photo framed without the label so there must be a bigger version somewhere. (1280 or 1600). Thanks! :)

Wow, thanks a lot Peloton! :) That's definitely big enough. I was just wondering, where did you get that from? Driving Ambition? I know there were at least 3 photos from that photoshoot, the one with the GT, LM and XP3, the one with the LM and XP3 and the GTR nose to nose (from your avatar), and this one. Are there any others? btw, if anyone remembers when i posted a pic of that up on my wall in a nice frame in that thread about what mclaren memorobila you have. Well, last weekend i fixed up the sizeing and reprinted it and reframed it (myself :) ) and it looks really good. I'll try to find the thread and post pix

The photo you requested, and the one in my avatar both are found in Driving Ambition. I'm not sure what the source was on the third photo you mentioned with just the F1, LM & GT. Surely it came from McLaren Cars, but I haven't ever seen it in print unfortunately.

Yeah, it's too bad nobody has a high-res version of that third photo, it's a really great one. I'm sure McLaren has one, they must have taken all the photos in the same size. I now have the 6 cars shot in 1600 and your avatar pic in 800x600. 800's a really good size, but I was just wondering if you've got an even bigger version of your avatar pic?

The problem with scanning an photo that size (less than 12"x12") and ending up with an 8000 pixel wide image is that it is going to be MUCH higher than the native resolution of the source photo. "Driving Ambition" looks to be printed in the 200dpi range on good paper which does make for a good source when scanning. Because of it's native dpi of approx 200, for best results in duplicating the image you would want to scan it at that same 200 dpi effectively giving you a 2400 pixel wide image. If you were trying to maximize the size of an image when scanning you could go as far as doubling the scanning resolution over the native resolution, but any higher than that and your scanned image will actually begin to look worse. The doubled image would of course end up at 4800 pixels wide. Honestly, anything more than that and you are not improving quality in the slightest bit. Even if you plan to resize the image down to 1600 pixels wide, you're still probably better off scanning it at that resolution, or just slightly higher for the best results.

Yeah, 90 MB is a bit too big. Does that mean you've got to scan it to get it on here?

If he is unable to post what he has, I have the shot in a resolution somewhere in the 1200 pixel range. I took a little extra time cleaning it up after I scanned it so it will look much better than anyone else's raw scanned image too. :thumbsup:

I used to have the original .tif file at a 2400ish resolution, but I can't seem to figure out what I did with the CD I had those on. :( If you plan to print something to frame, saving your scans in .tif format always makes for a better source file as .jpg is a lossy format even with 0 compression.

1280's definitely a good size, I can do with that! :) For me, 1280 is classified as "very good". 800 is "good", 640 is "reasonable", 400 is "not great", 200 is "bad", and 100 or less is "disgusting". :) 1280 will definitely do, if you can find the pic.

Well, that's true, but unfortunately these days many of the photos you see on the internet are 640. The amount of times I've seen great photos wasted because they're 640 or below... :( Anyway, we should probably get back on track ... this is a McLaren forum, after all. Have either your or Peloton got that picture ready yet? :)

Thanks, mini magic! Thanks to you and Peloton I now have both Shot #1 (six cars) and Shot #2 (avatar pic) in 1600. I'll probably think of framing Shot #1, since it's such a beautiful picture, and I'm still wondering about framing Shot #2, since it's very nice as well. Now all we need is Shot #3 (F1, GT, LM). A bigger version DOES exist, McLaren wouldn't take it in that low quality. Maybe the rare version of Driving Ambition has it. Does anybody here have that book? I'd buy it if it didn't cost the same amount of money as a McLaren! :) Oh well, one day we'll get that picture and we'll all have the complete set from that photoshoot, and maybe even more. Thanks again!

If you look closely at the image mini magic posted, you can tell it came from an overscanned photo as I described above. If you look at the areas that should be flat color, you'll find hash marks from the printing process in the image. It almost looks like plaid stripes or faint lines all over the picture.

Later on I will post my version of this image and you can compare them to see what I mean. It's also the one that I have spent time cleaning up, so it doesn't look washed out like most scanned images do. The washing out comes from the scanners light reflecting off the gloss of the paper when scanning. I made some other small improvements to it as well which make for a better overall image.

don't print it, it looks horrible. p's right, it looks plaid and looks really bad when printed out.

You can also resample it to say 70% or 75%
of the original size which will take most of the
hash marks away while still leving you with a
1200 by 1100 image, however you still can see
a slight pattern which probably won't go away
unless you touch it up.

i'm not sure. i used my biggest and shrunk it down and it looked REALLY bad, i fixed it up and it still came out messed. I'll try to find it. I'll post pix of my framed pic too

Maybe I'll try to edit mini magic's picture with one of my programs. I have one that helps reduce effects from scanning a picture, and that might work. If it looks nice enough I might not even need Peloton's version of the picture! :) What programs do you guys use to edit your pics?

I know that Photoshop is a pretty general program, but I was wondering, who's it made by, where can you get it, and can it be downloaded from the internet?

On Fast-autos.net, I was just wondering if anybody has a higher-res version of those two nice photos of the F1 GT. They've got the one where it's in front of a lake with mountains, and the other with a nice sunset in the background. They are the nicest photos of 56XPGT available, and would look very nice in frame...:)

I'm going to frame that 6-car pic in 10 x 8, so that will look nice, and I'm also thinking of framing another McLaren shot in 10 x 8. I can't decide if I should frame Peloton's avatar pic or that XP1LM calender shot that Peloton fixed up a while ago (it's in an alley way). I'll probably go for the XP1 shot because it's nicer and it doesn't have the plaid effect going on. I also found a higher-res version of that nice GT picture (in front of lake, not sunset!) It's about 800 x 500. Luckily, I found that it will expand up to 10 x 6 inches on paper and it still looks good. Are 10 x 6 picture frames easy to find? I hope so, because it's a really nice picture.

I wouldn't exactly call it high-res, but it's better than most of the pics out there. Unfortunately, genesis auto sales has put their logo on the bottom of the pic, but luckily it blends in nicely, because I didn't even notice it the first time I saw it. Does anybody have a higher res version still, or one without the logo on the bottom? I was just wondering, which pictures are featured in Driving Ambition of the GT? If this one is in Driving Ambition you could probably scan it and make it higher res. Anyway, here it is:

I haven't gotten the frames yet for my pictures, but I was looking on my Printing Program and the pics don't quite match up with 10 x 8. The XP1LM in the alleyway shot is a bit too wide and I lose about a cm or so on each side. As for the GT, it's way too wide and I'm still not sure what I'm going to do about it. If 10 x 6 picture frames don't exist, what do you propose I do? I'm thinking of simply putting the 10 x 6 photos in a 10 x 8 frame and ending up with the little black sections on the top and bottom (like mini magic's avatar pic), for the GT and for the XP1LM shot. Unfortunately, this doesn't look as nice. I don't know what to do. :uhoh:

i'm not that big on frames and stuff. I go to the big camera shop and ask the guy if he has a frame that will fit this pic. I don;t even know how big mine is. I think its 8.5 x 11 (letter), not sure tho.

I finally got around to framing those McLaren pictures, so I got out my Sony Cybershot and took a pic of how it's going so far:

As you can see I have the six cars shot, the GT shot and the alleyway LM shot all framed. The frames themselves aren't that amazing, but at least that way they don't distract attention from the car. As you can see I dealt with the 10 x 6 problem quite nicely, by simply placing a large black label on the bottom. The first one I did was the six-cars shot, and I found out that if you print the picture in 8 x 10, the frame is going to overlap the edges, but it still looks good. I'll probably fix it up some other time. I still need at least one more pic to fill in the gap, and I'm thinking about the Driving Ambition cover. That way I'll have a pic of each of the three different LM road versions, and the six cars pic. While I was thinking about that, I realized that all the cars I have framed are featured in the six-car shot, so I might consider framing the other three GTR's as well! I have a pretty good pic of the #59 Ueno Clinic Car, but I don't have any frame worthy pictures of the red GTR and the blue Long Tail. I'm not sure if I'm going to frame all six anyway, it will depend if I can find nice pics. So anyway, can anybody provide a scan of the cover, and possibly pics of the red and blue GTRs? I would greatly appreciate it, to finish the project!

Oh, and I was looking through my calenders when I found a nice shot of #042. If nobody has that shot in high-res, I will gladly scan it when I get the chance!

I'm glad you guys like them. I guess next time I get the chance I'll scan that picture of 042, and I'll post it here somehow. BTW, the LM shot I've got from Peloton is definitely good enough! It's a 1600 and he fixed it up a bit, so I think that's good enough for me. That's probably as good as it would get, wouldn't you think?

You will find no better version of that photo anywhere. :D ;) I didn't touch every pixel, but I did do a lot of work to that image to clean it up.

For the record, I am still working on completing that side view of #01R that was scanned/posted by mini magic a while back. It's proving very difficult to get the center seam clean and to get the colors on each page to match. I'll get it eventually, and it will look great I hope. I just didn't want people to think that it was forgotten about. :thumbsup:

I don't have any spectacuar photos of #10R, the red GTR, but I might have some decent ones of the long tail Gulf GTR. I'll have to look.

There's a real nice picture of the red GTR on McLaren cars, it's kind of taken from above, but once again it's too small! :mad: Oh well, I guess I could always just leave that one out, even though it's a really nice car. I have a scanner but it apparently doesn't have a card which I need to hook it up to the computer, so I'll have to go over to my friend's house to scan the picture. He also has that shot of 042 from the back as it travels down the highway on calender, but I'm not sure if he still has that calender. Anyway, when I get the chance I will scan it, because I definitely owe you guys! :)

Okay, I've decided to edit my final idea of framing. Instead of having all three of the GTR's in that photo, I'm just going to include the black Ueno Clinic car photo. This way, I'll have a frame of each type of F1 - the LM, the GT, the GTR, and of course, the F1 road car. So all I need now is the scan of the Driving Ambition cover. Can somebody please scan it for me? After that I'll be done for good. :)

Here's the best I can do. This was made using someone else's scans that were pieced together, but not very well. Also, there was some color deviation from the left half to the right half. The left was more red and the right was more blue - fixing that is always fun. :rolleyes:

If you look closely at the image on the cover, you can see that they chose to desaturate it completely except for the area around the headlights and fog lights. I wish they had chosen to keep the color in it, but I guess it looks ok this way as well.

I'm not sure what kind of success you will have with printing it, but it should be a bit better source than the F1 GT photo would have been, and that one appears to have turned out nicely inside the frame.

Thanks for the pic! Yes, I do owe you :). I scanned that picture of 042 in the calender (by David Wendt's), but I didn't really get a chance to burn it to a CD to bring to my computer. I tried toning the quality down to 3/4 so I could fit it to a floppy and it wasn't very satisfying results (there were little squares of grossness all over the pic). I'm not an expert at scanning, but I think that when I do get the chance to burn it it will be pretty good looking. Hopefully then I'll have paid back some of my debt. :)

Hmmm. I hate to say this, but I don't think the picture you provided is gonna be big enough! :( It's about 700 x 500 at the most when I crop it, and that's not really enough to print off with satisfying results. The GT picture was about 800 or 900, and it expanded a lot nicer than this one does. Unless mini magic or somebody else can provide a larger scan of the cover, I also have one other alternative pic, which will expand enough, even though I do like the Driving Ambition cover better. I'm not sure if I should wait for a bigger scan or just go with this one. It's the third down on my website:
