Upgrade question

I have a 93 sl,
I have already ordered a jdm engine and should arrive in about another week.
My question is this I want to make upgrades i know the ones to make but really want to give it the twin turbos. I was talking with one of my friends he has a monster firebird something like 450 hp, Anyway he said it would be usless to give it the twin turbos. Cause with front wheel drive it is hard to put all that power on the ground and alot of it is wasted.
any ideas? should i get one turbo, two tubos, maybe an electric super charger
i have an exhaust and an intake ready to put on it so i am going to add a little horse power there.

You can do a twin turbo conversion. You'll be able to get that power to the front wheels, that will be the least of your concerns.
The question of how to go about the turbo upgrade has been asked here weekly. Do a search and you'll find more information (and links) on what it takes.

yeah I saw about the upgrade and i
know easier said than done but the twin turbo upgrade dosent seem like it is a task I wou,d be willing to undertake. All teh documentation that I have seen mentions nothing abot the ecu. Wouldnt that have to be switched out also? I mean wouldnt the ecu have to managet the extra fuel and air tto get the maximum amount of power out of the twin turbos?

He is correct about drivetrain loss, but typically FWD and RWD vehicles regain loss traction in later distances. It's not useless to bolt on the turbos.
One giant turbo spools slower but creates more power. A small turrbo spools much quicker but produces less power. Twin turbos are the compromise between the two; fast spool times with decent power. It depends on what setup you want.
I don't doubt that you'd need to tune your ecu, or get another one.

that is what he was saying too much power would cause the front tires to jump off the ground.

Umm... no.
RWD with immense torque do that. If anything, your rear will go up. And you don't have to worry about that, for quite awhile.

Yeah, your tires might break lose until they grip, depending on what RPMs you are launching at, but your front isn't going airborne, aceshigh is exactly right. And twin turbos are NEVER useless~good luck with the upgrades

How? Can you please explain.
With enough power your front tires will jump, and you spin like mad the first few times you launch. I would recommend a front LSD. With some time you should be able to launch it pretty good.

I was thinking with really good traction tires.
FWD vehicles will skid, but it won't launch the car up. Remember that the wheels are turning clockwise, facing forward. Imagine the wheel being bolted to the ground. It's a simple lever and fulcrum model. The short side will be more difficult to lift than the long.
Now apply the same reasoning to RWD, that's why their front will jump.

Talskinyguy,
ty that is the point i was making, a RWD with immense torque will cuase the front tires to raise off the ground. or jump if there isnt enough weight.
the jumping i am talking about, kinda like when you take off on a slick surface. This can happen on a front wheel drive vehical with enough hp and torque on normal surface.
"what Is an LSD" still a little new

Limited slip differential
A closed differential means that your wheels are locked on the axle, and that they turn at the same speed, this is not good for turns, because the wheels cover different distances in a turn
open diffential means that they are independent of one another and they can spin at different speeds, the differential sends all teh power to the wheel with the least resistance, this sucks because if one tire starts spinning, the differential senses it has less resistance and keeps feeding it all the power, therefore you wont grip.
LSD is the median between the two, it lets the wheels spin at different speeds but limits the difference in power between the two wheels.
Basically, it will shave 1-3 tenths of a second off your quarter mile because you will get better traction during your launches.

so what would this cost to outfit my car with LSD

Like I said, i believe its 800 to a grand, however, if you do decide to go for the twin turbo upgrade, I would highly recommend the LSD, as talskinyguy mentioned. My friend has a 84 transam that he dropped a new 355 high output crate motor in, he has over 400lbs tq and 380hp, its an automatic, and when he gives it gas, he just spins through 3rd gear, he gets traction in 4th, but by that time, a civic can leave him behind. So its not always about power. But if you have the money, that would be a nice upgrade. The AWD is great for us on launches, but it hurts us in the long run.

Yeah i was really wanting a vr4 but the weight is outrageous, i figures i could get the same horse power with less weight and was hoping that I could do something about the traction. Sounds like this will help me out.
thanks alot
thanks alot

I thought the SL and VR4 weighed roughly the same.
