I have a 2000 LS sportpkg, and one day the airbag icon light on the dashboard started to flash on/off and then just stays on. Does anyone know what is triggering this? Are my airbags defective and do I have to bring her into the dreaded dealer.

It's indicating that there's a problem, most likely with the wiring.
On the good side - it hasn't gone off yet!
What did the dealer say about it?

Before you take it in, look under the driver seat from the back side and you will see two bundle of wires coming out of the floor. the smaller one goes to a yellow plug. check and make sure those wires are not loose or broken. If so cut the other one buy a new connector and splice it back and good as new.

Most likely the airbag control module. Costs about $150 then 400 labor! It is in the center console. Just replaced mine. Yes you are w/o airbags right now!

Hey dude, look @ my post "SRS Problem, what else can I do"...
My issue was that there was no light bulb in the instrument cluster and that was why it was giving me the series of beeps. Now that I have fixed that, I get 5 sets of 5 blinks and then the light goes solid. I can deal with that as supose to the stupid beeping.
Good luck. I will have the Clockspring replaced but not anytime soon. I want to make sure that no other sensors are bad nor the Control Module, or anything else that I can possibly troubleshoot myself.
If you have the money and don't enjoy working on cars, then I recomend you to take it to the dealer. Again, they quoted me $533 to fix it.
If you find an easy fix, then let us know.

Good suggestion - I have power seat and easy entry - it had pulled the wiring loose so airbag warning was blinking and staying on - after I made sure all wires were connected properly under the seat, no lights except on start up as they should be. It happens often - especially if you have easy entry turned on - needless to say, I turned that sucker "off" after the airbag incident.

I had the same problem, although mine was intermittent...some days it would stay on from start...other days it would only come on after I'd been driving for a while...other days it wouldn't come on at all...mine was a wire in the seat problem, dealership fixed it under warranty no problems since...

[Had the same problem but the wires were cut off at the plug. I assume that this plug is a dealer item only?

First I'd like to thank everyone for the info, it saved me a couple hundred dollars. :2cents: :icon16: I have a 2002 Lincoln LS V6 and the air bag light was going off. I suggest if you have the same problem is to look under the seat and check to see if the wire is loose/ damaged/ disconnected. It tured out my separated from the yellow adapter due to the memory seats moving back and forth. I was going to have a dealer do the job but as usual they charge top dollar. They told me $230.00 to fix it, and they were vague on telling me what it was. I took a chance and told them to give me the part which was about $40 and I took it home spliced the wire and reconnected it. It's a 30 minute job and easy. I'm happy to learn from here and save!

I had same problem with airbag light flashing. Located that harness under the seat and found a damaged wire. Sovled problem & saved $$. I've come across several lincoln LSs with the flashing airbag light w/ no body damage and I'm thinking this is a common problem.
