Clutch/Transmission problems...

I have a 1988 Brono II. It's a 4 speed w/ overdrive and I'm not sure of engine size but it's a 6 cylinder. I've been noticing a humming noise when the clutch is not being pressed. I've been told it's the throw out bearing going out, but not really sure as I'm an idiot when it comes to cars. The other day I got in it and it seemed as if the gear shifter was all screwed up... It feels like where neutral is, it's 3rd, it will go into 5th/overdrive and where reverse should be it's 4th gear. It won't go into any other gears at all. Is this the clutch? What would I need to replace to fix this?

I would really appreciate any help on the matter... Thanks...

wow i'm confused take it to a shop. i'm not too sure what transmission you have but i'd say the shift lever is loose and popped over one of the shift rods and they are all jammed up now. if you're good at fixing stuff take off the shifter boot and remove the shifter then you'll see whats going on.

you have a M5OD transmission. Sounds like the input bearing. The throw out bearing with make a noise when the clutch is pressed in, not when clutch is engaged. The M5OD is not a very reliable trans. Usually the plugs in the top cover will leak or fall out and then run the trans dry. You probably have a 2.9 L v6. The motors are kinda noisy, but last a while.
