lowering a 98 4runner?

are there any kits for lowering a 98 4runner 2wd sport? im looking for one but all i can find are lift kits. is there anything out there? please help me:rolleyes:

im looking for part for my dad. he's trying to lower it and put 20s on it. finding the rims is easy but there are no parts to lower it. and im not old enough to drive yet and when i start i dont get the 4runner. ill end up with either my g-ma's 94 galant ES:uhoh:, 04 caviler:iceslolan or 04 mazda 3:biggrin:

Why the heck would you lower a 4runner? For one, why would you take a Truck/SUV that is built for it's GROUND CLEARANCE and off-road ability and LOWER it? If you are bound to lower an SUV, I agree with TRDCivicCrusher when he says to take a useless SUV and do all that crap to it. If that is too expensive for you, get a suzuki samuri or a RAV4 (one of those useless SUVs that are already ugly) and do it all to it.

Looks like the only way would be to cut or heat the springs. I was thinking of getting a 96 4Runner 4 cyl 2wd and dropping it 1-3 inches. The reason is for handling and fuel economy since I will be driving 120 miles a day. Since the springs are all coils your options are limited. If they still built cars like trucks I wouldn't bother with a 4runner but my options are pretty limited. I want a rwd utility vehicle that gets good mileage, so sue me.

Save the lowering for Accords and Integras.

This might sound stupid, but I saw a Jeep Wrangler lowered on spoke rims. It sure was turning heads, just to say, "Look at that jackass".

Don't worry, it will never catch on. 4Runners will never handle well enough for the boulevarde cruisers.

Actually, I think it would be cool for a normal-height 4Runner to sit at a stop light and bounce the front and rear ends at the same time. Sort of jump up in the air. :)

That would be nice, but I like 4runners because they are simple. Its a vehicle that can last 20 years easily because it is built well, and without unnecessary do-dads. If I do drop one it will probably only be an inch and then i will get some good tires.

Performance products has springs to lower a 4runner. Go to www.performanceproducts.com Besides, I've seen pictures of 4runner's on 20's, lowered an inch to 2 inches. It looks nice, and you still have enough ground clearance. The 4runner has about 10 inches of ground clearance, compared to an average of 8 inches for trucks in the same class. That gives you some height to play with. I say go for it.

Its good to get some fact filled replies. I like the page Brian gave. Thats exactly what I want to do. The bright yellow is a bit much, but I guess its a good conversation piece. I love the idea of having a large vehicle that can corner well.

Just make the change in height small. A little goes a long way. Gadget said that he noticed a marked improvement with just the 1" lowered springs he mounted. (might have been mostly the new shocks).
