there is so much ways to tell you if the car is a sl or vr4 one big one is a sl regersters 160mph and the vr4 regersters 180mph.

my bad you said 3000gt and sl there is only one way and thats the preformance test a sl is supercarged with 222hp. a stock base 3000gt is got no supercarger and is very slow with the 167hp setup. OK!!! :)

*shakes head* An SL isn't supercharged.... It's naturally aspirated with 222 horse. If they were supercharged, they'd have a lot more power than 222. And seb, are you talkin about like... just seeing it on the street and being able to tell? Or being able to look under the hood and stuff?

It's difficult to tell from body. Pop the hood and you'll see the engine.

How lovely would it be if an SL had a supercharger...

Hard to tell, sl came with leather as an option and the base didnt, I think. arent the rims different also?

Nesryn

Yeah... I was thinkin rims 'cause the SL and VR4 are diff and stuff. But I don't know what they look like.

Awesome lookin car man. If I'm not mistaken, the base was a SOHC... while the SL was a DOHC. So pop the hood, see which one you got.

What year is it? And is it a manual?

sebmista

its a '94 and hell yea its manual lol, i dont like automatic cars... which brings me to another question.. aight i hear about double clutching, my friend tells me that, thats when ur going about 40mph and u shift to nutral u rev the rpms to like 4 and then quickly shift to like second and let go of the clutch and u take off pretty fast.... is that what double clutching really is?

Nesryn

I think you can use double clutching at any speed and in any gear. I don't know many people that do it though, just 'cause trannies don't need it these days I don't think. Plus it wears out your clutch hella fast if you mess up.

that is for racecars, that is why they switch out the clutch and tranny out after about every race. I wouldnt recommend it, especially with a vr-4

aight
i was just wondering if thats what double clutching is

Your frist question. In 94 the base and SL both are DOHC, but only the SL has ECS.

Your second question. What you said is double clutching is not. Ive had lots of people tell me double clutching is exactly waht you just described, so dont feel bad. Double clutching is not bad fro your tranny or clutch, its actually very good for them. However, what you described is bad for the tranny/clutch. Double cluching:
1. press in clutch
2. take out of gear
3. let off clutch
4. rev match to the gear you are going to shift into
5. depress clutch
6. shift into gear
7. let off clutch
There will be no strain on your syncros, and your car should not take off or slow down when you let off the clutch. If it does you are doing it incorrectly.

double clutching is applicable when you are downshifting, and it is good 4 all cars (if you care about your tranny). Basically, when you downshift, notice your RPMs shoot up immediately and your car lurches forward. That is because.. actually, I don't want to write a book...here is a link that explains it all:
http://www.driversedge.com/dblcltch.htm

basically, once you practice for awhile, it is second nature and doesn't take anytime at all, and it will definantly keep your tranny running alot longer.

what is an ECS?

I believe ECS stands for electronic controlled suspension, basically, on most vr4s ( i know it's not on the 96s) there are two suspension modes. Touring is the normal mode that comes on when the car is on, basically like normal driving. And then there is a button that you can toggle to switch to the other mode, Sport. Sport mode is tighter suspension for faster speeds and such.

Whats up Che, its Brett, Sara's friend. I met up with you a few weeks ago at the car show. Your car is sweet looking, as for your double clutching question that is the racing definition. Some people use that term when they are talking about pushing the clutch back in right before your about to stall but what your talking about yes, say your going 80 mph in 5th gear, shift to neutral and hold clutch, rev to 5000 RPM and shift to 3rd gear you will have a nice speed increase since 3rd gear is known as our seperation gear since its the one we usually beat people with. :iceslolan

you could also look for leather, i haven't seen anyone say that yet,and an SL is a z11 on the firewall
