Broken Volume Button on Stereo

My 98 Civic's factory stereo has had a broken volume button for way too long. I just decided to try and fix it but have no idea how. It turns and effects the volume level but there is no predicting whether it will go up or down - and how far up it will go up before (if ever) if decides to start going down - very annoying!!! I pulled the knob off and that's as far as I felt okay about doing. I've been searching for some info on this problem but have found no one complaining of a similar situation. Does anyone have any advice???

i would just buy a cheap aftermarket cd player and save yourself the trouble.

real cheap ones. wont be real good, but almost anything is better than the stock one.

don't mess with it, might as well get a new headunit unless you are really inclined in the area of electronics. go for a pioneer or alpine headunit, you will be much happier with these.

Keep in mind Dawn...you change your stock HU you lose your keyless entry on our cars...unless you wire it up right,

So not the news I was hoping for but thanks for taking the time! I was so sure it would be a simple adjustment and now I'm glad I asked before trying to take it all apart. :)
