90-92 motors are called 6 bolts, as opposed to 92-99 7 bolt motors.

hold up, you said 92 in both, i have a 92 GS, what would that make mine? did you mean 93-99 = 7 bolt?

99.9% of 92s were 6 bolt. The other .1% are 7 bolts. The actual name comes from the number of bolts that hold the flywheel to the crank. IF the motor is out of the car you can tell by counting those bolts. If the motor is in the car, you can tell by feeling/looking at the oil pan (see the vfaq).

Well, you were technically correct. More correct than 90-92 and 93-99 anyway. There are a very few 92 7 bolts out there....

The 6 bolt has bigger rods, and they have different cranks. They have other internal differences, but i dunno em

The main reasons are less prone to CW, and bigger rods mean they can handle more power (over 500 whp stock).
