Hello, I'm new to this forum. I have owned an 88 Crown Vic LX for about 7 years. Has about 155,000 kms on it. I love the car; bought it from my dad who was orig owner. Recently while driving, suddenly the headlights will go off and on intermittently without warning! I had the dimmer/signal switch replaced but the problem persists. The car is equipped with a headlight delay off switch and also has an optical sensor in the dash to automatically turn lights on at dusk. Anybody have this problem? Ideas/suggestions?

I'm having similar problems with the headlamps of my Crown Vic. With the switch in "auto" the lights come on at random times, draining the battery. Note: the interior dome and floor lights come on too. If I set the headlamp selector switch to "Off" then just the dome and floor lights come on.
Before I replace the switch I'd like to hear if it fixed your problem.

Well, I took the car back to my mechanic and the put two separate relays in the headlight circuit. One for high beam and one for low beam. So far, so good. The head lights work normally. He said that the way the circuit is wired from the factory, and with the four halogen lamps, the circuit would overload and trip a relay causing the intermittent off/on. So, I haven't replaced the switch yet and, touch wood, I haven't had problems with the "auto" setting; however, I don't use it much.

dntemp__ca,
Did you have problems only when the car was running? Or did it happen when everything was off too?
My problem is definitely when the ignition is off. After the timer has shut the headlights off they will randomly come back on. It was happening yesterday afternoon, but then stopped last night.
I wonder if it could be the Lighting Control Module?

Had the same problem on my wifes 98 CV, come to find out it was the Xenon bulbs I put in her (the car, not the wife). Definitly nice and bright (the car, not the wife) but were overloading the circuit breaker for the headlights. Took them back out and havent had the problem since....about 11 months now.

I just posted a new thread about the headlights and interior lights coming on by themselves with the key off, because I did not see this post. I replaced the lighting control module and it did not fix the problem. Do you think it is the headlight switch causing this problem?

My '01 CV's auto headlamp nonoperative all of a sudden. The dimmer does't dim cluster and radio buttons dont lite up. Though it was the LCM but local ford guys hooked up a computer to it and found it all good. They are saying it could be the dusk sensor or auto lamp rela on the dash. They are to Hotmail ford tech and get proper solution back to me asap. I did do a search on that relay and ebay, O'Reilly and other stores carry it for $40.
Light switch module could be an issue as well. What you guys think??
