I just bought a 92 turbo Two weeks ago. I was driving down the road going around 60 mph and it died. It would turn over but not start. Then after about 20 minuts it fired up and ran just fine.I checked the battery leads and the distributor and they are good. The fuel tank is half full.Has anybody had or heard of this before.I'm now worried to drive it because I don't know when or if it is going to happen again.

Sounds like it could be the starter motor.

what would the starter has to do with the engine dying out?

Sounds like the fuel line, actually, to me. The engine probably isn't getting enough gasoline and just dies. You should get it checked, because it will continue to do it, and being stuck on the higheway waiting for a tow-truck sucks.
The same thing happened to my friend's 98 Jetta.

I think I found it.One of the wire looms had fallen into a drive shaft and exsposed some wires. It looks as if it grounded out the system.I hope thats all it was. Thanks for the suggestions ,Rse
