My 96 Jetta GL 2.0L just had the Check Engine Light come on. The oxygen sensors were changed a year ago and all fluids are fine; the oil was changed a week prior to the light coming on. Car is driven 50 miles per day. Can the oxygen sensors have gone bad so soon? Dealer said that they last approx. 5 years. Is there a way to reset this light to see if it will come on again or stay off?
Any info can help.
Thanks
Alan

On a '96 if the problem goes away the light will go off a set number of ignition cycles (something like 50). There's alot more than O2 sensors that will set off the light, have the codes chacked.

yes. you can disconnect the positive batt cable and leave it disconected for 5-10 min...like he said there are several things that will set that light off... I can suggest using bosch o2 sensors.. Excelent parts.. on my 97 vw jetta gt I have 106,125 miles on my origanal oxygen sensors
