i have an 85 chevy scottsdale 3/4 ton and i want to put an exhaust system on it but i want something cheap but sounds good. i was thinking cherry bombs but i heard they dont last long, any help, thanks

are you looking for Cat Bac they will be fine

I had a 73 sierra 3/4 ton with decently built 350. It had headers and cherry bombs when I bought it. I went from the bombs to a turbo flow 2 1/2 " system with same headers which sounded awesome at higher rpm's in addition to a nice rumble at idle. The system including labor was $400.00. Headers are not that expensive and I found that my overall engine performance and fuel economy increased.

I ran an 85 sierra classic 3/4 ton 4x4, with a 375 hp small block. used it as a service truck for a few years. Ran dual 2.5" exhaust pipes, with the old, and very short, Blue Bottle mufflers (haha muffler, yeah) Think they were about a foot long. Had an h-pipe in the system as well, and hooker super comp shorty headers. pipes ran to the back end of the truck, tucked up high, then bent down to exit under the bumper at about a 45 degree angle. The system worked great, but at any rpm above idle, would fairly deafen anything within about 5 miles. Good power, Good sound, but take into account local bylaws about noise.

If your truck doesnt sit to high I would suggest Flowmaster 40 series muffler(s) with turn downs.

I dont know if your running a cat or not.

Headers would be great. If you have to run a cat make it a high flow. Find them real cheap on ebay. Less than $40.

There is a difference between loud, sounding good and just plain ratty.
If your not running a cat just run the pipes back to Flowmasters with turn down outlets. Put the mufflers before the rear axle. :iceslolan
If you need to run a cat I would suggest headers (edelbrock makes a T.E.S. with a Y pipe but it is costly) Hedmann makes the same set up with a y pipe but its cheaper. You can then bolt on a high flow 3" CAT and run 3" pipe back to a Flowmaster 40 with 3" in and 2.5" dual out and then just bolt up the turn down pipes at end of muffler. Not only will the Flowmaster sound good but it will be bouncing off the ground. RUMBLE.
If you want dual outs you can split after CAT and run 2 Flomasters. Get crazy and make them 2 Flowmaster have dual outs. That would equal 4 turn downs. YOWWEE. Or you can run true DUALS with dual CATS to DUAL FLowmasters. But I would install turndowns. The big chrome tips everyone has now are played out and the sound is old. The sound from turndowns will never get old.
You can get Flowmaster 40 series mufflers on Ebay cheaper than a mail order catolog. I got my last one for about $40 plus shipping.
What ever you do remember losing backpressure will change the power in your truck.
