I just bought this RS and it needs a new block because the previous owner busted the shit out of this one. So while i have the engine apart i figure i might throw some extra money in it. I have a buddy at work that talks mad shit about his 90 Cav 3.1 and i want to own his ass. What kind of setup do i need to beat his ass with my RS.....without Turbo
I'll be getting the stage 2 kit from hahn racecraft later in the year once i pay off the car. So right now internal engine work is being done. I figure anything i do internally will back up the turbo once i get it."

Hey my mother just baught a 97 Eclipse RS when she drove down to visit me today she had it. Its a nice car. I like Eclips except the 4th gen.
Anyway i have been looking for performance parts for the RS but its very little aftermarket. I seen the turbo kits but there expensive. I read on one of the tuners who makes one of the turbo kits that the 420A motor is actually a good platform to work on. They said it can handle 270hp @ crank without any problems. Although that sounds good it also sound a bit fishy. Id play it safe and build up the internals first. My mothers first words from here about the car is she wants to put ligths under the car, i almost died. I told her not to put any ghetto ricer shit on it, she would be laughed at. My goal for here RS is 200bhp all motor. After 200hp than a turbo kit would be good.
I dont like just slapping major power adders like turbo, superhcharger, & nitrous on stock engines without actually making good power from all motor first.
Let me know what your plans on for mods are. you can email me at: [email protected]
I drove her car around for a little bit to see what it was like and it is a good car. She has a Automatic cause she cant drive stick but the Auto has a button on the side of the shifter that lets you diactivate AOD which is pretty cool. I took it on side road to see what it could do if i opened it up and had a little fun. I revved it in neutral than popped it in drive and chirped the tires a little. Than i was on a straaight road with it and tried launching it and the little engien roars. Her car looks stock except it has a exhaust. I was glad to see it was a real exhaust and not some 5" Folders Special. The only probs i saw was that the rear hatch struts need replaced cause they wont hold up the hatch. The car hesistates when you gwet on the throttle but i think thats just cause its a Automatic.
Rigth now im just looking at getting a intake manifold, throttle body, fuel rail, cams, & header just to start, i figure letting the engine breath better is a good start. I still havent found anyone who makes a performance head for the 420A. I am not having my mother do anything performance wise until the car is 100%. gonna change timing belt, balance shaft belt, spark plugs & wires, change the oil, tranny fluid, coolant and all that preventive maintance. If everything is in the clear than will start with minor mods.
I also noticed while i was driving the car that there isnt much headroom. im only 5'8" and my head was touching the roof of the car. :banghead:
