92 S-10 Blazer floods when warm

Hello,

I have aquired a 1992 S-10 Blazer that ran great for a few days.

Now when it gets warmed up, it starts to idle up and down.
When you put the vehicle in any gear (drive, reverse etc...)
it stalls and will not start. I smell a bit of gas, so I believe it
may be flooding itself out.

I thought that I should drive it around and "blow out" any carbon
etc... I ended up with a 2 mile hike home in 19 degree weather.

If you leave it sit for a few hours, it starts right up and drives fine.

Suggestions?

Thank you in advance.
Mike

New Information :banghead:
This may come as a shock, but it took me a bit
to realize that I have TBI - not CPI. Acronyms are
not my forte'

I hope this new information will help shed some light
on my dilema.

If you are getting the Rotten Egg smell as I did with my 92 s10 I would look into the CPI if you have one. If it was done already was the nut set replaced at the same time?

blazerfromhell,

I don't recall a Roten Egg smell, in fact, I do not always smell gasoline either.

I would like to add that this only started happening when the weather turned colder.

I will check into your suggestion, but must admit I am not very handy with mechanics.

What type of cost would I be looking at with parts and or labor if this is the case?

Do you have a W in the vin? If so CPI. The reason I am reading this forum tonight is my Blazer is acting up this month also. its pretty cold here in NY . I like to start by looking at the plugs. It tells alot

No, my vin has no W (just checked)
Assuming the 8th over from left, I have a Z.

I have been looking all over the net for a possible solution. Everyone that mentions the CPI generally has problems starting. I only have starting problems after the engine is warm.

Thanks again and good luck.

What is CPI? Replace what nut set?

Finally found time to do the 5 minute changing of the Coolant Temperature Sensor. No more service engine light truck is warming up. Will post final outcome later.

Thanks to everyone who helped and read.
I hope this thread is useful to others sometime.

The problem was indeed the Coolant Temperature Sensor.
