Hey guys i just put my mr2 on the DYNO. The results on the DYNO were 261hp at the wheels with 296 pounds of torque at 5k rpms. I want to get the car into the 300 hp zone. What should I do?? I swapped in a jdm motor in my MR2 and I still have the NA gauges is that a big problem or should I try to find the JDM or US gauge pod?? what do you guys think?

what do you have done to it thus far?

Bigger Turbo.

I agree, preferrably BALL BEARING!!!!!

I just did the whole exhaust system and Intake system. I am also pushing at like 18 lbs. of boost..

Wow, that helps? Whole exhaust system? Do you have any cats? Downpipe?

Either way, you might wanna look into some intercooling

Im running 3 inches from the headers down
with cats...
what kind of intercooler??
how much??

hmm 18 psi is alot for the car. If you only have an intake exhaust in your car, id say you might be hurting it with 18 psi. Plus my car in first and second gear cant spool above 10psi at redline anyways( i dun know if its just my car) , so get a ball bearing and you can spool a good amount on first gear.

wow 18psi is a lot from what i've been reading

HondaChili, you still have the factory turbocharger (Ct-26) which can not make ful lboost to redline ... it general falls off after 5500 rpms.

Depending on which JDM motor Need2Speed is using, they may have the CT20b unit which will pull till redline.

Boost is relative depending on which turbo you are using.
18 psi is a lot on the CT26 turbo because above 15-16 psi you are making more heat (risking detonation) than you are making additional power. Bascially the measely gains of going from 15 psi to 18 psi on the CT26 is not worth the risk.

If you have the Ct20b (or any other bigger turbo) you will notice significant gains going to 18 psi from 15.

Me personally, I would never go over 15 psi on any turbo on our cars, unless:
*I was using race gase
*I was using water injextion
*I had an upgraded intercooler.

I have all 3 (and more engine safety stuff!) and I regularly push 22 psi of boost out of a much larger T3T4 turbo on my 195,700 mile original unopened engine. :D

Big boost doesn't kill our engines.
Detonation kills our engines.
Big boost increases the risk of detonating.

If you are wise and careful about upping your boost, you can get away with a lot.

Be careful.

well at 22 psi I hear a knocking sound, and i get constant boost all the way to 6000 rpms. I only put high boost when I am running the quarter mile, but ive noticed that my boost will only spool up to about 18 lbs on the quarter

Which turbo do you have (ct-26 or CT20b)?
Again, if you have the CT-26 there is no benefit in running it past 16 psi, your simply increasing heat (knock/detonation) for negligible gains.

I believe it is the ct26.. When i run the quarter i turn off my boost controler and i Watch the boost gauge and 18 is the highest ive seen it spool up to most of the time I see 15-16 psi on it when i shift close to red line...

If 18 psi is the max you have seen, then how are you hearing knock at 22 psi?!

If you are on the CT26 and you are revving to redline, you are blowing way past your ideal shift point.

IMHO 15psi on the CT26 MAX 18psi on the CT20B is sweet...even a tad higher on a cold night but I'd never push a MR2 in HOT weather at all unless having sufficient cooling mods.

in a modified mag nov 03 there is this sick mr2 they call him the phat kid in the mag. he is running a 91 mr2 w/615 rwhp and 501lbs./ft of torque. he runs a business i think calles extremeboost.com or something. have you guys heard anything about this guy. he has the fastest mr2 in the world. he also uses a throttle body from a mustang i found that kind of weird.

91mr2ski, you are referring to Jeffrey Burke a.k.a. "LB"

His car is extremely fast, but it is not the fastest MR2 in the world.
His fastest 1/4 mile is an 11.0 @ 125.
There are a few MR2s in the 10s and I have a video of one from Japan in the 9s.

As for the throttle body, lots of high HP MR2s use alternate throttle bodies. The Mustang unit is avery popular one.
There are lots of options out there from other manufacturere's. My turbo MR2, Hyde, uses a GM O2 sensor. :D

Jeff AKA "phat kid" had his car on the dyno yesterday latest #'s are 818 WHP and 629 torque at 33 psi on race gas no NOS.

For more info check out http://www.metalexmotorworx.com/projects.htm clic on the white Mr2.

Jeckyle is your car daily driven? Either of them that is?

I have 3 MR2s and the break down is this:

Hyde is the race car (drag, hill climbs and autocross) ... with some occassional spirited driving on the street.

Jekyl is the "date" car ... when my girl and I go out, trips to the beach ... basically going somewhere nice. The car is pretty, handles great, wonderful on gas, but no HP whatsoever.

Jekyl Jr. is a white 88 MR2. I just aquired this in the last 2 weeks for a $1000. I had a red 86 MR2 that I bought about 2 months ago, but that was recently stolen and burned tothe ground. That car replaced the daily driver I had for 5 years ... an '87 Turbo Sprint. That car was sold to Chris Rado (the big name import drag racer) and he has since heavily modified it as his track go-cart and he uses to pull his drag car around. :)

I live and work in a rather unforgiving city (see 86 MR2 stolen and burnt above) ... it is not realistic to daily drive a nice car in this city.
It is almost a necessity to have a "disposable car" .... so I bought the '86 for $650 ... and there it went ... lol

Such is life.

When I was in my early 20s, I had several really nice turbo MR2s as my only car ... notice I said "I had." Check out my web site, I have been through a lot of MR2s. I was young, naive and had too much power for my own good. Having that much power everyday, all day allows you to take it for granted and abuse it ...

I learned some hard lessons. (sorry this is so long, just felt typing away)

Na its a good thing its long, valuable information in the post.

I was thinking about buying an alltrac as the "screwin around at work/school" car and the "winter" car.. I mean, i dont even need to list the reasons it would make painfully perfect sense..

take a look at your turbocharger and take a look at what it says on it.
