Air Bag Light

The Air Bag light on my wife's 1995 Grand Caravan SE came on when she started it up to go to work the day before yesterday. I checked flash codes and it appears I dont have any faults at this time, and there are no other electrical problems that we know of. I am an electrician so I am willing to attempt troubleshooting the problem if I can find good circuit diagrams at the library (later today). Can any one offer suggestions or point out a path to follow? Though it just went over 100K miles This van has never been in an accident and has been well maintained, we are the original owners.
thanx

On the 1996 Caravan there was a recall to replace the clockspring assembly that connects the steering wheel mounted electrical components to the electrical system on your minivan. A failed clockspring will cause the airbag warning light to remain on. This failed clocksping could cause your airbag to be inoperative. You should check to see if your 1995 was also recalled :killbarne for this as well, if it was you may be able to have dealer fix it on their dime. I did with my 96 Chrysler T & C and it had 94,000 miles on it. If they won't do it at least you have a place to start looking. Ride On, digimon

I found this sight for you to check on recalls ( http://www.dodge.com/owners/index.html?context=dodge_hompage&type=centerNav )

thanks for the info.... I checked the dodge site as you suggested, evidentlly that recall isnt available to 95 models. You are right though, this gives me a starting point. The dodge site also listed various manuals that are available, and one was for air bag diagnostics. It sounds like it covers fault codes only (not actual troubleshooting) but they only want 7.00 bucks for it so why not.

to access the airbag codes you need a scanner - get it scanned and once you have the code it will be way easier to fix. Might be well worth 50 bucks.

Geoff I have been seriously thinking about buying a scanner lately, but I am not sure which to buy.I dont know if The ones that read engine fault codes also read air bag fault codes (its a different control module and I think it has a different connector) Do you know if the various hand held units come with an assortment of connectors and if they read different controllers?
