i gotta question about the ka24de and the sr20det. would it be better to have a ka24deT rather than the sr20det? because i'm thinking about buying a ka24de and doing a lot of engine mods and also smacking on a turbo. if i was to do the same mods on a sr20det, which one would be quicker and better? and is it possible to make the sr20det to a sr24det and what would happen if i were to do that? i'm pretty stumped and i would like to hear everyone opinions on what would be best in proformance and durability?

What "engine mods" do you want to do? And also, I'm not directing this directly at you, it's just a pet peeve of mine you could say; I absolutely can't stand it when people say stuff like "I'm going to slap/smack a turbo onto the car." That statement makes it seem so easy and that's never the case. Your always going to run into an unexpected problem. A turbo setup is a big install anyways and can't just be "smacked on" in a couple hours.

It all depends on the kind of driving your doing. While both motors are capable of all kinds of racing, it just seems that SR's are more geared towards road/auto x while KA's are geared toward drag. But like I just said, both motors can be used for either. Jun has a 700-800 hp SR that they use for drag and there are quite a few guys out there who drift/road race/auto x with the KA.

I've never seen a 2.4 liter SR. Some company make a 2.2 liter stroker kit for the SR though.... I can't remember who makes it, but for some reason TODA is ringing a bell. It might be them.

i dont think it is possible to bore the block out to a 2.4l the walls will be to thin and probably will not be able to stand up to hi boost pressures.
what do u mean by specs,
they are bout 4cyld, sr is tubo with a t-25 ka is a n/a motor.. just read the f.a.q.

It's not going to be possible to get the sr to have a 2.4 liter displacement. You can change the bore and the stroke to change displacement....although you can only change each one so much. The SR currently has an 86mm (or 3.385817 in) bore (diameter of cylinder) and the SR has an 86 mm ( or 3.385817 in) stroke (rod length). As turbo2nr said, you can only bore out the cylinder walls so much before they become too weak. And when changing the stroke, you can't just go and change the length of the rods because to increase displacement you need longer rods and if you just get longer rods then have fun watching your valves bend from the piston slamming into them as soon as you start up the motor. You will need to get a custom crankshaft as well, as this is why you see that crankshafts are included in stroker kits. Going the extra .4 liters isn't worth all the work your going to have to do.
If you do still want to play around with it and see how close to 2.4 liters you can get then use these equations:
Displacement = Bore^2 (inches) * Stroke (inches) * 0.7854 * number of cylinders
That will give you the displacement in In^3 (cubic inches). To change it to liters, then multiply the displacement in In^3 by 0.01638.
Have fun :)

You Can't Bore An Sr Without Weakening The Block (its Aluminum And Aluminum Has To Cure To Get Its Strength And If Its Cut Its Super Weak.). There Are Many Different Companies That Make Sr Kits: Toda, Jun, Tomei, Hks, Etc.
Theoretically You Could Make A 2.4 With Just Stroke But You Would Have To Have Custom Pistons Done Up Re-pinned To Stay At A Specific C/r And An Extrememly Long Rod Length.

Just go with the kit that J SPEC was talking about. I've heard of people talking about it but it seems like a waste of time and money. It is what, like probably in the 2 to 3k range in price and you have to have engine work, such as cylinder wall resurfacing, assuming you or someone else has driven this motor before. It would be a lot of work to put this stuff in. The SR20 pistons, rods, and crank can hold a lot of power stock. you would be better off upgrading the turbo syste (i.e. exhaust manifold, turbo, fuel system, BOV, wastegate, intercooler, exc.). This is assuming you have the money. I only say this because you don't really have to upgrade the SR engine itself to make power, but you must upgrade the KA engine motor to make power.
