Aftermarket keyless entry help

I just bought an 01 Ram 1500 pick-up. LOVE IT! I think it has an aftermarket keyless entry installed. Here is my problem. When you unlock the doors with the fob, the doors unlock but the interior lights don't come on. The interior lights SHOULD be on before you open the door (someone might be waiting for you in your back seat). When you open the door that's when the lights come on, when you close the door the lights go out. This is not right, there should be a delay time the lights should stay on before they go out, but there isn't. Also, I get no horn chirp when I lock the doors with the fob. OK, problem #2. When I insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the on position (not start), all of the doors lock. Turn the key back to off position and the doors unlock. I don't like this feature. The other morning I put my 13 month old in the carseat, ran around to the driverside, opened the door, and started the truck so it could warm up. I forgot somthing in the house so I ran back inside, when I came back to the truck all the doors were locked with my son inside!!! After several minutes with a coat hanger, I got it opened. This has happened to me twice.
Is there any way to disable this feature?
Is there somthing that can be done about the interior lights and horn chirp?
Any advice from somone out there would really help! I don't have an alarm installed.

Call Dodge, they have a way to disarm the lock/unlock feature using the fob and the ignition switch. It's a matter of pressing a fob button and cycling the ignition.

Does anyone have a 2001 dodge ram p-up ext cab, do you get a horn chirp when you lock the doors with the fob? And how long do your interior lights stay on after you lock'em? Does this make and model come standard with keyless entry?

Your dealer can not help you on this. You stated that it is aftermarket. Do you know what brand? I sell these for dealers installed. I always hookup horn honk, light flash and domelight supervision. I try to make mine as close to OEM. Unfortunately, my competitors do not!!!

The fob is a crimestopper, thats all I know. The dealer told me its an aftermarket. Maybe only the fob is aftermarket?? Could it be the fob that is causing my problem? The fob has 4 buttons and only 2 of them work, lock and unlock. The panic button doesn't work. Any advise would be a big help.

Can you suggest a better unit that I can buy and program to work properly with my truck?
Thanks

Well, I sell and install DEI stuff. You should be able to find it in your area under Valet, Python, Viper and others. It is fully programable to suit your needs.

bassmaster-you CAN disarm the auto lock feature. There is a wire on the unit that is hooked up for this feature. Find the unit and start unhooking wires, one at a time, to find the one that arms this feature. On the cheaper units that I install the wire is purple, I don't know if that will help you or not.

Also on the cheaper units, there is not a program for 'chirp' or any lighting sequence such as interior lighting or exterior light 'flash'.

As stated before, your dealer can't help you on this one.
