Changing Transmission Fluid

I wanted to change my trans fluid from regular to royal purple can I just drain the oil and replace it with the other without taking out the oil from the tork converter??? :uhoh:

yes you can drain the fuild and put the the new in .you can not get all the old fuild out of the torq converter unless u drill a hole in the converter and tap it out and install a drain pug i do this every day i work at a trans shop but i think it will be ok if you just drian the pan change the filter refill the trans

You can go to a dealer, or a quick lube shop if so equipped, and get an entire transmission fluid flush. I use a local quick lube shop. Stay away from Transmission Shops unless you have a definite transmission problem. They make a lot more money doing unnecessary repairs than they do from fluid changes. Certainly they are not all dishonest but Beware. Naturally you should be careful with Dealers as well. The House always wins. Dealers, and properly equipped lube shops, simply hook you up to a machine and out with the old ATF and in with the new ATF torque converter and all. When I switched my 96 Tahoe over to synthetics at 35,000 miles I had Mobil 1 ATF put in mine. It took about 13 quarts if I remember right. I am getting ready to get a partial refill and filter ATF change soon as my Tahoe has now passed the 100,000 milestone. I will do one more thing to keep my tranny running strong-add in a bottle of Lucas Oil Transmission Fix with ATF Conditioner along with the 4 or 5 quarts of new Mobil 1 ATF that it will take for a more typical partial ATF service. Lucas Oil makes some dynomite products. If a person doesn't want to spend so much on pure synthetics then I would recommend something like the new Valvoline Maxlife ATF blend. One might want to throw in a quart of V Max ATF with Stop Leak for good measure. Of course one's Tahoe will appreciate any brand and type of new ATF. Full flush or partial. Even just plain old Dexron III is pretty good stuff-definitely better than old ATF. Are you in or are you out?
