buying a mustang, help

my good buddy is coming across 17grand in about 2 weeks he's 21.
he wants a 99 cobra cause its in his price range, he doesnt wanna go over 15g's. neither does he want a stick, do all cobra's come as sticks?

and if he got a gt what would he have to do to make it even with a cobra? exhaust intake and chip?

Forget getting a 4.6 GT and makin it even with a Cobra. Do a Vobra I know they are becoming cliche but it's so awesome for the money. I don't like 99 or 01 Cobra's cause the IRS is weak as shit. So get a nice 96-97 Cobra same motor as 99 Cobra but has a solid axle for $11,000 ish buy Vortech's Liquid aftercooled S/C kit and start pulling 400+RWHP and kick some ass!

good luck finding a cobra that's not a stick, as far as i know all cobras (at least in recent years) are manual. the modifications to make it auto can be done easily enough for one with the patience and a little extra cash to see it through.

i couldn't agree more. cobras are built for handling, so why would they be auto?

I believe he means independent rear suspension

doesn't it mean that theres not a solid driveshaft going to the rearend. There is just a joint in the middle of the shaft which causes the front and rear suspensions to be more separate. I'm sure theres more to it though.

actually, independant rear suspension means there is no solid axle between the rear wheels. just like front wheel drive, there's a differential with 2 CV-joint axles, known as half-shafts, one for each wheel. this sucks because the halfshafts break a lot more easily than solid axles and thusly running slicks places your rear suspension on borrowed time. additionally, irs is prone to wheelhop under severe acceleration, such as at the strip. thusly, live rear axles are better for drag racing, whereas IRS is better for roadcourse/autox.

heh... just what i get from talking to cobra owners + my field experience. mod??? yeah right, only 143 posts =P

tell him to get the cobra stick, sticks are so much better. give him a week with one and he'll much prefer it.

Ya its fun to lay down a little patch in 2nd and snatch a lil 3rd. But if he's like anyone I know thats been driving a stick for years like me, it gets old. Specially in traffic. Just get a TCI C-4 with about a 2500rpm stall. He can have all the fun in the world.
