Here is my new project. I have been awaiting to start this project from love of RX-7's. I need your help though. As most of you know, I am the ultimate progress person, I never finish my models, and they become dust collectors. I need you to cheer me on to the finish, I want to finish it but I dont think I can do it alone.
Heres the first pic of the hood (own design). I first taped out what I wanted to cut out, or file.

UH-Oh, what happened to the headlights. Out with the old in with the new, scratchbuilt projectors to come!

I know what you mean, however I dont think the Veilside D1-GT kit Im going to put on would flow real well with sleepy eyes. Not to mention I am a huge fan of projectors.
Thanks for your input though.

Hey Joeham, think about this. If I were going drifty, would I be adding a veilside kit to this? :evillol:
Here is the body kit I'm doing.

I would. Hey, I see it like this....if you've got the cash to afford this high powered car, and pricey body kit, so what if you tear it apart coming around a hairpin @40mph at a 39 degree angle. you can fix it!

LOL, then you don't know mike. :grinno:
Nice work so far, mike. It'll beat the pants off of mine.
Suggestion for projectors: (you probably already thought of this) Cast a mold of the headlights and use clear resin to make the clear covers, then just build the light parts... and coat the inner lights with carefully laid tin foil... yeah... I'll talk to you more later.

Yea, its against my religion not to put a body kit on a car, or anything of the sort. :grinno:
Thanks.
For the projectors, I am going to cast a copy of the actual covers that were attached to the car in the first place with clear resin. Then make the rest of the projector out of putty, and other materials.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Cool, it'll be a challenge to build the backs of the lights, but it'll probably turn out good.

Yes. I traced the original lights on to styrene and cut the out. Then build a side and back for it. After that I puttied it up and shaped it.

mike@af
02-01-2005, 09:29 PM
An update? What the hell is going on? An import, what the hell?
Yea, I thought the same too. I decided to try and pickup and finish, my standing projects. I decided to go crazy with body work. I will probably add more plastic than what originally came with the kit. Yes, I know some of you will think its "rice" and have a difference of opinion, but oh well. I like body mods, and I went off the deep end on this one. I build for myself.
There will be scoops on the side that will be a flowing theme through out. (yes, I know, they dont do anything, but what the hell.) Complete body kit designed by me, with a huge FMIC mouth. (Yes, not realistic, but who cares, I think it looks cool.) With fender flares that will flow into the scoops.
Below is the work on the front so far. I have also added some strip styrene to the inner wells to start prep work for the flares.

http://img77.exs.cx/img77/5829/dscf00055wz.jpg
Enjoy. Oh, and the rims are not staying, they are for the '40.
Comments are welcome, but do not whore up the thread with your two cents about it being "rice".

I had just about forgotten this thread even existed... but now that you are back on it, great! I like this new fascia; are you going for the "shark mouth" look?
Anyway, it's good for you to take a break from your hot rod for a while and fufill some of your older commitments.
Great job, keep it up!

Wow, I really like the feedback that has been given on this project. Its not near as bad as I expected. This project is a real good brake from the hot rod stresses and lack of motivation.
Sam, I am sort of going for that shark mouth look. There will be more mods to the side vents after I add the flares. All-in-all, it shall be interesting. I myself dont really know how its going to look.
Josh...not really NFSU2, just cleaning up the projects. While I was at it, just wanted to go through some nostalgia of the good times we had enjoyed in the past years.

UPDATES:
Worked on the fender flares today. Those things were the biggest pain in the ass. They look rather large, and sort of odd in the picture, but in actuality when you get a real perspective they look just right...at least I think so. :) They really wasnt much room on the fender either, another reason why they look large.

The "rough" looking spots are not all that rough. Its actually a mixture of superglue and sanding dust that creates and super strong joint, with a cement weld. Works damn well I might say. After its done, I'll hit it with some polyester putty, it will be smooth as a babies ass.
Enjoy! Comments are appreciated.
