62 mg purchase...?

Hi everyone I'm new to the board... Hope you can help… I just registered on this board and I’m looking for some info. I have an opportunity to pick-up a ’62 MG and I do not know what to look for on her. I know it has a hard top (soft top is in good condition), needs new rubber, was rebuilt about 35K ago (do not know total miles yet), and has the 6-volt battery - all for $500.00.

I want to use this as a commuter – I drive 16 miles a day for work (round trip) and live in [sometimes] sunny California.

So, do you think this car will be, try not to laugh, reliable? Is it a good deal? And lastly, are there any serious issues with this year?

Any help/comments would be appreciated… Thanks in advance…

Its been awhile since you posted this so I don't know if you are even still considering the MGB. '62 was the first year for the MGB and it has two six volt batteries hooked in series and is positive ground. There are still plenty of them out there and parts are available forom several sources and it loads of fun to drive. You have to be careful to get one that isn't too rusted as they are suseptable in several places. A rust free one would be a real praze. They are very reliable but may a pretty good investment to get it up and operating. Go to mossmotors.com for a catalog.
