225/40/18 too BIG?

With 2/32 thread left on my current tires, I thought it would be time to get some new ones. ;)

Finally decided on the wheels, I went with the Exel - Radius hyperblacks from wheelmax (http://www.wheelmax.com/Wheels/exel/exel.htm). They are 18x7.5 in size and I paired them with some Yokohama ES100 tires for a grand total of $1160. I know it's a good deal, but for me thats a lot of money and well I'll get to this point in a little bit.

What I want to really start out with is ask if this really isn't too large for my 2G DSM? The CSR @ wheelmax said they will fit, but I know that this is a little larger than stock spec. So what I'm wondering is if there will be any negative aspects to this or not. Cause if they don't work I could always return them in worst case scenario.

Now back to the part about it being very expensive for me... since these wheels are larger than stock, I'm guessing it would raise my car a tad? I think it's high enough as it is, and so this brings me to the lower the car part.

I really don't know however whats the best course of action I should take when lowering the car. I did read some posts on it here, but a lot of the concepts are alien to me. Ideally I would want a soft suspension yet firm when racing and cornering. Even though I own a RS, I still drive it hard and enjoying racing on it. :D

So with not a lot of money, what should I be looking at? Ebay has a lot of coil overs for dirt cheap, however there must be a reason for that...

But anyways I dunno if I even need coil overs or if theres something else to it as well. - lol

I am running 18x7.5 konigs with 225/40/18 tires. They fit fine. Dropping the car will def help with the handling and the looks! aerospeed isn't uh.. bad I guess. But personally I'm not too keen on them. I'd say if you're gonna do it, do it right. Cause my friend has the aerospeed coilovers on his rsx and they ride like a tank (and yes I know how a tank rides). Try the ground controls coilovers, or eibach springs. I have had both and they ride very nice. also get a good shock setup, KYB, or tokico. They should serve both purposes you mentioned and look and ride nice. Good luck

How's a 1.75" drop would you say? I really don't want it too low to scratch the paint from daily driving or too low causing a harse ride, etc.

Cause there's these Tokico shock and spring combo for sale right now @ ebay for $360.

Thats what I have on mine, with a kit, and PA roads blow. But I still dont have too much trouble. you just have to be careful. That sounds like a sweet ass deal btw. I payed that just for my coilovers. Plus, if you're not worried about adjusting the hight of your ride you don't really need coilovers. Go for it. and enjoy!

those wheels will fit fine with those tires. and coilovers are most always better than just strut/springs. glad to see that you found some you like for cheap, and glad i could help... ;)

You do know when you put bigger rims on car your gonna make the car accelirate slower because its like having larger gear. You will get a littl emore top end speed though. Just a thought, bigger isnt alwasy better depending on what you wanna do with it. bigger rims also mean more sprung weight that will get less power to ground. id think 16" would be big enough.

First yes I am aware that larger wheels take more effort to get them going. Second this is for a show car most of all. Third the wheels I'm getting are roughly 20lbs I was told which maybe slightly lighter than stock even. Forth I wasn't asking about this. And finally fifth thanks for replying about two weeks after I posted the question.

Anyway nothing against you, just thought I'd point those things out though. :)

Wow using that kind of langauge really shows your intelligence.

If you actually read the entire post then you'd realize that I'm not asking if this wheel size is too big for racing, but rather if it will fit the car correctly, etc.

Next time think before you post please. BTW, Your "sacaim" isn't needed.

I should be receiving them tomorrow. If time permits I should have them installed with the new struts and springs by Tuesday. I'll take a pic then for you guys.

Well after thinking it over for a little bit I went with the Tein S-Tech's. Got them for $145 on ebay and well didn't really see anything else in that price range for quality 1.2" drops. So hope it turns out well. :)
